Quote: | "Terrorist" O'Hare Misses Performance
Tony Award-winning actor Denis O'Hare missed a performance of play Sweet Charity on New York's Broadway last week after he and his boyfriend were detained as terror suspects by police at a Virginia airport. The Take Me Out star was returning from his sister's wedding with Hugo Redwood, when their one-way tickets prompted an extra security check. As a guard asked them to step aside Redwood joked, "I guess we must be terrorist suspects." Despite O'Hare's best efforts to diffuse the situation, Redwood was subsequently handcuffed for two and a half hours, before being released by the FBI. He faces charges of disorderly conduct for the security scare, gossip site PageSix reports. O'Hare says, "I do have a big mouth, but they just didn't like our attitude, so they dragged him (Redwood) through the airport without shoes, threatened and verbally abused him." An airport spokesman says, "We take security very seriously. If our officers intervened, they must have felt that the situation necessitated their involvement." Redwood is due in court later this month to face charges against him. |

The Take Me Out star was returning from his sister's wedding with Hugo Redwood, when their one-way tickets prompted an extra security check. Redwood's ill-advised jest that they were terror suspects led to his temporary arrest, as well as charges of disorderly conduct. But Redwood believes the allegations are ridiculous and unlawful. He says, "The incident report, if you read it, is laughable. It's clearly perjured to cover their asses. The second guard said he heard me shout, 'I'm a damn terrorist,' which is ridiculous. And if this was really about terrorism, why would they not bother to question the person I was flying with?" O'Hare is furious at his partner's treatment and insists president George W. Bush's security paranoia is demeaning the country. He says, "For the first time I feel like leaving the country. America is becoming a nightmare with the permanent war culture brought on by this president. I don't recognize my country." |

Even before 9/11, if you saw someone you knew on a plane, and their name was Jack, and you simply said, "Hi, Jack", they'd remove you. And it wouldn't be by politely asking you to disembark...

Scott Adams, recently did a post on the "dilbertblog" that was semi poking fun at this. Not of this particular situation, but of the senerio. He to, had a one way ticket, a last minute one way ticket. (didnt have a choice there), and so they put him though a more though security check. needless to say, he almost missed his flight going though the checks. There's a fine line between security, and parinoria.

Really. People complaining because they have to arrive earlier at the airport. Complaining because of more thorough checks. I don't see these people complaining when something is discovered, do you?
What happened to Redwood was not a result of parnoia, according to the articles posted. It was a result of his complete and utter stupidity.

I'm confused, what does the name Jack have to do with anything??
Well...I agree that this seems rather paranoid of airport security...it's ridiculous.

Wonder if the thousands that died would be as "annoyed" by all of the upgraded security measures as you all seem to be? I've flown several times since 9/11. If you don't act out, don't do anything stupid, they don't do anything, either. If they hear the word terrorist? You bet they'll be on your ass. I have no problem with them checking on anything out of the ordinary.
BTW, always love how the person who caused the scene is always the "victim". They never did anything wrong, not one of them. Incredible...

For the first time in a long time , I agree entirely with Theresa. It was his own fault, no one else's.
