Today is the day known as Constitution Day, which was passed into law by the US Congress that says that all elementary, middle, and high school students must be given SOMETHING about the constitution, either this week or next week (if you're in a US elementary, middle, or high school grade and you're not doing anything dealing with the Constitution at this time, talk to the school. It's the LAW).
So, being that today is Consitution Day, and tomorrow is the anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution, I wanted to start a topic to talk about it and whatnot.

I read about this in the newspaper yesterday. It was very interesting!! The USA is NOT a democracy -- that i found interesting too b/c that's what i had always thought!

Well, we are a democracy, that's true, just not a full-fledged direct democracy--we have a representative democracy, also known as a Republic.

This is one of the major flaws in our present government. The founders lived in an agrarian society where the representatives spent at least several months of the year in close proximity to their constituents, who had face-to-face access with them, and the ability to throw rocks at their house (or whatever) when angry. The intention was that voters would know their reps as individuals, not as faces on the TV mouthing a few soundbites.
