Tue Aug 23, 2005 7:23 am Made law to DNA test every baby for paternity? |
|
Should every baby born be DNA tested to prove father is biological parent or not?Dont you think it would stop a heap of solicitors 'cashing in' on a bad situation. If fathers knew from the day of birth,by law, that they are or not the 'dad'.
It would stop a heap of anguish and pain for both the child and 'father in question.
If the father doesnt want to know the result, then thats his perogative.Cant stand hearing about women having 2 or more 'possible' fathers to their children, harrassing, screaming to 'pay up' or else.
Child support I mean, its nasty,to lie to get someone to pay for a child that they know or possibly know is not the father!

It shouldn't be mandatory, but in situations if its not known who the father is (thats pretty sad really) then a test should be done if the people in question want it.

I don't think it is mandatory either. All my kids look like Charlie thank goodness. If they look like me, omg!

Getting to be one sick society if we were to need manditory DNA tests for newborns. I certainly don't think so. It would be a huge waste of money and laboratory work to test even the parents who don't even need that kind of thing...which, one would like to think, goes for the majority of people.

No way. I'm absolutely sure that Samantha is Johny's daughter (she even looks like him, and has his personality ). It should be reserved for those familys that have doubts about paternity.

Um . . . why would we need it? It would just be a waste of money, not to mention time. I agree with the others who have posted in this topic, that having such a law would be bordering on the "absurdist protectionism" side of government policy.
We don't have enough doctors now to deal with problems, having to compel doctors to administer just one more test by law will slow down the system that much more.

I think that the guys/dads should be given one for free if they think something is not right.Dont you people watch your own shows'Jenny Jones','Maury Povich' and the grand daddy,'Jerry Springer'.How it 'destroys' familys, children losing dads after 5 or 6yrs thinking their dad is their 'dad?
Does America have a child support system funded by the government,to force fathers to pay.Australia does and it costs the government millions to chase fathers for the money. When the poor guy might not even be the father.I am all for child support from the non-custodial parent, whether its the father or mother. It would give the fathers peace,so they can get on with their lives.

What about the mother? The woman delivering the baby doesn't have to be the biological mother these days.
It is only a matter of time (and expense) before the insurance companies will require DNA scans. That way they can charge people more and/or deny coverage based on genetic issues, such as being prone to certain types of cancer, etc.
