PostTue Dec 27, 2005 6:02 pm    Star Trek: The Eagle Star Adventures - Backstories

This topic is hereby created to provide fun backstory materials for my RPG Star Trek: Vision of the Future and its sequel(s). I'll be posting a variety of tales about the planets the crew of the Eagle Star encounters, crewmembers and other characters, and other good things to tell the backstory of.
My first story, which I am working on now, is called "STAR TREK: Dantooine." It is about the Dantooine settlement. I will be posting it once I have it done in a second post.

Note: If you are a member of my RPG, I would invite you to discuss with me the idea of creating your own backstories on your character or other characters, events, etc. that are at least refered to in the RPG. I think it would be excellent to have your additions in this topic as well. It will not just be a topic merely for my backstory fan fiction, but is also open to all other members of my RPG for their own backstories.
Enjoy, and contribute as well if you are a member!

Part One

Dantooine is a planet that appears in the Star Trek Vision of the Future RPG. It was colonized by Federation settlers without Federation approval and will become the most critical planet of the Federation in the sequel RPG. This is the tale of the Dantooine settlement.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Historical Documentary-Commentary:

Dantooine: a placid world, untouched by the hands of any sentient humanoid being. That is, until two starships came to the planet and formed a settlement.

Approximately 80 years before the present time, the Alpha Centran and the Civilization left the Federation, fearing war with the Klingons due to the high tensions between the two states at that time. Booker T. Johnson, the leader of a group supporting isolation between the Federation and the Klingons, led the group of 50 humans, Andorians, Vulcans, and Betazoids out into uncharted space in search of a home to settle on.
The craft carried enough supplies for five years, including building material, food, clothing, and other necessary entities, such as weapons. The duo, known more commonly to the eventual settlers of Dantooine as The Twins, left without provocation. There was no communication with the Federation upon their embarking journey. There was only a message a month earlier that if no action was taken the members of this organization would leave the Federation for good. The Federation Council was surprised when, a month later, they realized that the Twins had to have been long gone, and yet sent no search party.

Settlers Story:
Booker T. Johnson, considered Captain of the Alpha Centran and Admiral of the Twins, Administrator of the Federation Isolationist Movement, entered the bridge of his flagship upon being called down.
What is it, Mr. Barkley? he inquired to his human second-in-command. The black organization leader had been in the middle of a deep, necessary sleep and yet was called to the bridge for something important. It would be important, of course, because otherwise Barkley would not have awoken him.
The man with the Starfleet equivalent rank of Commander said, Were receiving odd signals from a nearby star system, Captain.
What system? Johnson inquired, curious. Odd signals coming from a nearby star system? He was suddenly worried that Starfleet might be investigating these readings, and that gave him concern that they might be apprehended and brought back to Earth.
It is uncharted, sir, Barkley replied. The readings areanomalous
Huh, Booker T. remarked. What kind of anomalous readings? he inquired.
Were no science experts, Captain, Barkley remarked in response. The truth was, there were no science experts on the ships. There were a few science officers, but they knew little. No one could make an accurate analysis of these readingsunless, of course, they went directly to the planet. Therefore, we have no idea.
Im intrigued, the leader said. Order the Civilization to follow us to the system. Tell them that were going to investigate the system. Perhaps well find a planet to colonize there.
Yes, sir, Barkley replied, nodding. He then proceeded to transmit the message via his console to the other ship.
And thusly, the Twins set course for the uncharted system, reaching it in little over an hour.
Captain, the ships helm officer spoke, turning to face Booker, who was sitting in his Captains chair.
Yes, Helm? Johnson inquired. His supposition was that they had arrived. His supposition was then affirmed.
Very well, Booker T. remarked, looking at his second and then at the helmsman. Mr. Barkley, run some scans of the planet. Tell me if you pick up any civilizations of any kind on any of the planets in the system. If not, see if there is any kind of humanoid sentient life and what more you can pick up about the anomalous readings.
Aye sir, the second, who had formerly been a Starfleet science officer, stated. He then proceeded to run a few scans. I am picking up two life-sustaining worlds, Captain. Both M-class. One is aa moon, and the other is a planet. Neither have signals of any current civilization, nor humanoid life. The planet is the one presenting us with the readings, sir. Id suggest that we send a detachment down to the planet in the Ganges, sir, to investigate and perhaps set up the settlement there.
The black Captain thought for a moment, but before he said anything a Vulcan officer of the ship looked up and said, Taking such premature action would be inadvisable, Captain. We do not know what these readings are. Nor do we know if they pose a threat to us. It would be highly illogical to take such a course of action, Captain.
Mr. Barkley, what do our sensors say about the environment of each of these planets? Johnson asked.
The moon of the gas giant world, the white human replied, is almost entirely consisting of tropical forests. We would be unable to maintain a settlement there He drifted into thought and his scans before saying, On the other hand, the planet consists of a large amount of plains but still has trees and wildlife and water that could sustain a settlement. The only problem is, we know nothing about the readings. He then paused, looking at the Captain.
Such a course of action remains highly inadvisable, sir, the Vulcan crewman, Sarek, said in the typical Vulcan tone. Johnson knew that it would be dangerous, but kept in mind that they had been traveling for well over a week already and had yet to call a planet their home. If this one worked, it would be wise to settle there.
The Captain shook his head. No, Mr. Sarek. It is otherwise an ideal place to settle. Weve been traveling for nine days without declaring a world our own. He paused, sighing. Were going. He turned to his second. Mr. Barkley. Take a team down to the planet in the Ganges. Take a look at the location of the anomalous readings and let us know if they appear to pose a threat, or if the planet is worth and safe to settle on.
Barkley nodded, stood, and headed for the hangar bay which housed two shuttlestwo of the three shuttles within the twins. They were old-style shuttles, but would still do.
Once again, Captain, the Vulcan officer stated, this course of action is highly inadvisable.
I know, I know, Johnson said, now annoyed at the situation. The helm officer then proceeded to let the other ship know of the action that Patrick Barkley was about to take.
Ten minutes later the shuttle Ganges sped off towards the planet which was then christened by Booker T. Johnson, Dantooine.

The chronicles of Dantooine will continue and finish in Part Two of

Author's Note: Part Two of this story will have greater length than Part One, as it will chroinicle a much greater time period. I wanted to end it, especially, where Booker says "Dantooine," ya know?
