I am (pathetically) trying to dabble in Flash, and I was wondering if I could get some pointers.

Find someone who lives near you or goes to your school to teach you. Bribe them with video games, chocolate or homework. Alternatively, you can wind up and creep out an IT teacher until they show you how to use it.

Normally I just fiddle around with programs until I can figure it all out. I pretty much learned all of photoshop and 3d studio max doing that.
I have not used macromedia flash in some time though.

I have no clue how to use Flash, however the number one site I hear about on the web is Flash Kit. It has tutorials for apparently almost everything you can do with flash: 2D animation, 3D animation, games, interactivity, et cetera.
I've always wanted to learn Flash, and have used it on occasion at school, but buying the program wouldn't be worth the amount of time I'd probably use it (which wouldn't be much, at first). So if you are going to learn Flash, go for it. It's great way to make games, movies, presentations--you name it.
