So the story goes in my town, an Illegal Immigrant driving a car without a license got distracted on the road because he was eating. Anyways he crashed his car into a city worker who was standing next to his car and pinned him. That city worker lost both his legs.
Should the illegal immigrant faces charges and spend the rest of life behind bars or should he be deported back to Mexico?

Quote: | The man police say crashed his car into aNorth Las Vegas city worker, causing that worker to lose both his legs, will be in court today. News 3's Alex Savidge reports on why the city worker hurt in the crash wants to see the man punished.
Tony Barruto says his life will never be the same. He lost both legs in that violent crash earlier this month, and the driver police say hit him has only been charged with two misdemeanors. Investigators say the driver was just distracted and drifted off the road, but Barruto is still hoping he spends time in prison.
"I'm not ashamed to say it.... I just kept crying for my father, my wife to help me."
His legs were pinned between his work truck and another car that slammed into him, and Tony Borruto says the pain was so unbearable he blacked out. Doctors told him he lost so much blood he barely survived.
"My wife and doctor said I passed away twice and they brought me back."
Borruto says he knows now it just wasn't his time to go. Doctors did have to amputate both of his legs to save him and now the North Las Vegas parks worker is learning to accept what's happened to him. Investigators say a distracted driver, a man named Jesus Cano drifted off the road and smashed his car into Borruto. Cano is now facing two misdemeanor charges for failure to pay attention while driving. Borruto says he doesn't hate the man police say did this to him -- he says that takes too much effort. But he says he does want to see him punished.
"If he's doing wrong then why should he walk away with a misdemeanor? A life is a misdemeanor. Years ago you got punished for something like this."
It remains to be seen if that will happen -- but in the meantime Borutto is focusing on is getting better -- well enough to work again. "So the faster they get me my new legs the faster I can get back to work."
Borruto has been working for the city, caring for parks in North Las Vegas for the last eight years. He says he's been promised his job back once he's ready. The man charged in the crash, Jesus Cano is being held on 10 thousand dollars bail. He's set to appear in a North Las Vegas court at 7:30am this morning.

Over here (Netherlands) you wouldn't get life for that. He wasn't drunk or anything right?
Don't believe in human beings being "illigal" somewhere too, but that's another thing
I'd suggest maybe serve the sentence in Mexico?
P.s: Tony Barruto, almost sounds like buritto

Woah, yeah, wait. In Illinois you get 10 years and a $100,000 fine. I don't think you get life for that.

Do not deport. Give them life, a fine, and imprisonment, I guess.

Give him a long sentence (I think life should be reserved for those who actually kill, but at least 10-20 years) and then deport him. It's simply wrong.

Give him a fine and put him in a prison in Mexico. He's changed that person's life forever now that they can't walk.
The only thing I don't like is that if he goes to prison he'll probably live better than someone out of it in Mexico

Don't tell me you really believe that the Mexican government would actually DO that.

I don't really know much about Mexico, but there used to be stories of people living in realy poor areas committing crimes just so they could get food and a roof over their head for a few years.

Yeah I agree, just take em back to Mexico. But in a way I feel they do need to be punished if they break the law though.

I think he should serve some time in Jail and then deported back to mexico. I don't think he should get life in prison, he did not kill anyone or do anything harsh like that. It was simply an accident. Unfortunatley there was some serious damage, but that happens every day.
Murders don't even get life in prison. I think people are being racist and wanting him to serve life in prison because he is an Illegal alien.
What should happen is they should charge him for being an illegal alien and for his accident, then after he serves his time.. they can release him back to Mexico.

It's not about being racists. Anyone who creates a crime should do time no matter who they are. But in this case since it was an accident, yes send him back to Mexico.

But send him back to mexico ONLY because he is not supposed to be here. Not because of his race... correct?

No. He broke the law TWICE, and MUST be punished for it. If not, we might as well get RID of laws.
