PostTue Mar 22, 2005 3:55 pm    EASTER!!!!

There isn't a topic yet, and there's less than a week, so here it is!

What are you going to do for Easter? Do you eat hot cross buns on Good Friday? Do you just celebrate it as a holiday, or do you think more of the religious meaning of Easter?

I personally eat hot cross buns on Good Friday, as they signify to me Jesus dying on the cross. I also like the idea of easter eggs, as they signify to me a new beginning and the resurrection of Christ.

Since Sammie is being raised by one non-religious and one semi-religious (aka me) parent, I'm going to tell her why we celebrate Easter, Christmas, and other Christian holidays. Since this country is officially a Christian country I'm also going to tell her about the significance of the Christian faith (especailly the Church of England) on life in this country. Since a lot of our history involves religion (especially during Tudor times ) it'll be fun giving her past examples. However, she's a little too young to understand anything yet, but I think she'll at least enjoy the chocolate I'm also going to let her choose her own religion as she gets older. I guess that'll mean educating myself more on the other religions, since I only really know the basics.

I'm going to church on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. I don't go there often enough, but I try to make the effort for the significant holidays in the calender. I'll probably take Sammie too, but that'll mainly be to give her grandparents a break at this age (she's not being Christened because I feel it's important for her to choose her own religion when she's old enough, so I wouldn't be keeping the promises made at a Christening).

Sooo... what are you doing for Easter?

I'm doing a very nerdy thing.

In Canada, we have a channel called Space: The Imagination Station, it's my SF and Fantasy fix. Anyway, for Good Friday the good people at Space are showing a miniseries marathon.

The first part of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars premieres in Canada on Friday, and so Space is going to show the final 5 episodes in the series prior to airing the first part of the miniseries. After that, they are showing all three episodes of Frank Herbert's Children of Dune back to back. That means that I will be up watching Children of Dune until 5 AM Eastern. I have them all on tape, but I can't resist it.

Then of course they are showing part 2 on Saturday, there's a new BSG, there will be plenty of stuff to do on the weekend. It shall be a fun four days.

I'll probably go to church. Then either have a ham dinner at my Nana's house, or at home if Dad's not up to it.

Three days prior to Easter Sunday, I'm going to spend an hour a day in prayer/meditation...then on the actual day, my church is having "gifts for the King," where we get together and share gifts God has given us with others and for His glory. It's a really cool thing. I think I'm doing a dance, but I don't know yet...looking forward to it. We also have some sort of 6:30 a.m. morning thing, but I don't know what's going on there.

Odds are I'll be with her^.
The regular Sunday morning service is usually different on Easter, more singing and such. But, I like going to church anyway, so....

Ah, forgot to add that on Sunday my mom is probably going to make a turkey, and my sister and brother-in-law are probably going to come over. Turkey means: stuffing, cranberry sauce, and even better: turkey soup Mmmm . . . .

Going to church, then going to the baptism of a family friend's baby, and then going to a party at the family friend's house (I'm guessing the latter)

I goofed this year. I usually request it off from work and go to the sunrise service at 6:30, I think that's the time, and then the church service at 10. Unfortunately I'm working 7-3 on Easter. The sunrise service is either 6 or 6:30,don't remember from last year.

Ima goin... to sleep in probably. And then find my easter basket. who cares if we're all grown up? Old traditions should never die, especially if they involve easter candy and a new kite. And then going to church. And then... having a nice Sunday. I guess.
