PostMon Mar 14, 2005 5:39 pm    Happy Pi Day

Muwahahaha. Yes, today is Pi Day!

About Pi Day
Wikipedia wrote:
March 14, written 3/14 in the USA date format, is the official day for Pi Day derived from the common three-digit approximation for the number π: 3.14. It is usually celebrated at 1:59 PM (in recognition of the six-digit approximation: 3.14159). Some, using a twenty-four-hour clock rather than a twelve hour clock, say that 1:59 PM is actually 13:59 and celebrate it at 1:59 AM or 3:09 PM instead. Parties have been held by mathematics departments of various schools around the world.

Does this spawn of Satan actually have a day in it's honour?

Darn! I wanted to do that.

A few years ago when I was still at the university, I had to write a program that calculated PI to as many digits as you asked for. PI is one of the coolest numbers. It pops up in mathematics everywhere, from circles to complex numbers. You can do so much with it. The ancient Egyptian calculated PI to 5 digits fter the decimal point I believe more than 3000 years ago. Simple amazing!

Happy PI day!

Pi just amazes me.... Math in general blows my mind too. Of course I absolutly HATE doing and think it sucks beyond no means, but where math is found, and what you can do with it..wow!
