I agree, it has a lot of potential but it's not as good as SG-1. The season finale was a terrible patchwork of special effects, deus ex machinas, and unoriginal writing, it was painful to watch.
Dr. McKay is sort of growing on me though, I like his character even though I despised him in SG-1.
