Anyone have opinions on the new documentary from the CBC?
Quote: | Through a series of intimate portraits, Being Osama opens a window onto the lives and experiences of six Montrealers who have one thing in common. They all have the same first name as Osama bin Laden. Each Osama has a very different personality, background and interests, but the fact that they share a name that has become so notorious has made each keenly aware of the ethnic profiling and backlash against the Arab-Canadian community in the post 9/11 world. |
It aired last night, I unfortunately forgot to watch it (seriously . . . it completely slipped my mind!) Luckily it's repeating again tomorrow. An interesting subject, I think I'll take a glance at the documentary.
Ironically enough, they have or were going to have a special screening at Harvard, and the film director cannot attend because although he is in Canada, he's still not a landed immigrant--the Immigration Office hasn't gotten around to approving his citizenship--so if he flies to the U.S. he may not be able to fly back to Canada.
Oh, and a link: http://www.cbc.ca/passionateeye/beingosama.html
