Duotronics were the computing systems used in the 23rd century, before isolinear chips became the most prevalent within starships. Duotronics was pioneered by Dr. Daystrom.

They were the computer systems aboard the original Enterprise and quite likely its first few successors. No one ever really explained how they exactly worked. They are less advanced than the system on the Enterprise-D, where the computer stored information on interchangeable isolinear chips.

Voyager introduced the next line of computing technology, bio-neural gelpacks. Gelpacks augmented the ship's processing power with organic technology.
