SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Bomb squad officers were called to a Sacramento light-rail station Sunday morning after the discovery of a military mortar.
Authorities said a pedestrian spotted a towel in the bushes behind the station at 23rd and R streets. The person picked up the towel and the mortar fell out.
Police responded and tested the mortar and determined that it was inert, and had possibly been used for training.
"This stuff is out there ... in people's yards ... every once in a while," Sacramento Police Department spokesman Mark Hari said.
The light-rail station was shut down for a couple hours while police investigated. |
