I don't know how many STVers have been following CBC's little jaunt with crazed pseudo-nationalist reality contest The Greatest Canadian, but I've been watching it with mild interest.
The top ten nominees were:
Sir Frederick Banting
Alexander Graham Bell
Don Cherry
Tommy Douglas
Terry Fox
Wayne Gretzky
Sir John A. MacDonald
Lester B. Pearson
Dr. David Suzuki
Pierre Trudeau
Over the course of several weeks, CBC aired hour-length shows featuring a view on each candidate by an "advocate", then Canadians could vote.
Tonight CBC aired the finale, where the top ten were announced.
The top three were, not surprisinging: Pierre Trudeau, Terry Fox, and Tommy Douglas (he had a strong turnout).
The winner was, somewhat surprisingly, Tommy Douglas! (Father of universal healthcare, Saskatchewan premier).
