|
The new Battlestar Galactica series has begun airing in the UK, and will come to the US in January. What's everyone think so far?
Personally, I think it's great. It's most definately not the original, for good or for ill-----and it should not be compared to the original, since, as Richard Hatch puts it, "that serves niether show".
But taken on its own terms, it's a dark, gritty, realistic take on the BSG premise which has loads of character stuff and doesn't let the SFX get in the way of the storytelling.
Other opinions?

I shall watch it (I haven't watched the Mini-Series yet). I will try not to judge the show by comparing it to the original, which was truly awesome.
One gripe, though. I read several interviews with actors and creative personnel in various magazines. I wasn't too happy because some of them gave backhanded compliments about the original show with comments such as, "We respect the original show but this one will have more character development."
But, I shall give it a try. I'm not expecting too much, though.

I think I know where they're coming from with those comments. Yes, the original show had good characters, but in some ways they were fairly plain Heroic stereotypes-----the networks wouldn't let them explore the darker sides of those character at the time.
The new one, on the other hand, makes more of an effort to really show all sides of the various characters---the good, the bad, and the ugly included.

Yeah i absolutely LOVE IT!!! I record it every monday night and i think it has just SO much potential. In my opinion it is one of the best new shows on TV at the moment. I hope it lasts longer than the origional series though. At the moment i just can't get enough of it and thats almost all i talk about when im with my friends (but they don't watch it so they have no idea what im on about ) I prefer battle star galactica to enterprise. i know you can't really compare them but im just saying thats how much i like it
