I'm a Brit and not really qualified to talk about this. But I voted for Bush.

It's just my opinion so please feel free to disagree. Firstly, I don't think some of Bush's domestic policies have been good for the U.S. However, I think he has done some good and his heart seems to be in the right place.

He has done some good in the war on terror (never an easy war). The fact is, whilst innocents have suffered, NO-ONE, whether it be Bush, Blair or Putin, can stand by and let terrorists cause huge loss of life. I know there are shades of grey, I know governments should pay attention to the causes that give rise to terrorism. But there are fanatical terrorists who wish to cause loss of life and who have hijckaed Islam, a peaceful religion.

Action needs to be taken. Bush has been proactive about this and it's one thing I commend him for. That's all I'll say on the "war on terror" for now.

There's a lof of work to be done. Bush isn't perfect but the main problem, in any country, is that voting in a new leader can set things back, much like a sports team bringing in a new coach and having to get used to his training and tactics.

I hope Bush stays. But of course, it's the American people whose opinions on this will be more valid than mine.

Thankyou for your detailed input, I enjoyed reading it. I agree with most of your points.

Gonig on what you said about being brit and all, we dont care who you are. Everyone should be allowed to put input into this, because if we like it or not the US is a leading country in the world.

Also, some pics and possibly some quotes have been added to the first post.

Thank you for the kind words.

I know one thing. People criticize Bush or Tony Blair. I've personally heard Blair referred to as a "dictator". I don't have much time for Blair's policies but he is NOT a dictator and neither is Bush. You may not agree with everything they do but they are not dictators.

Democracy isn't a perfect form of government. But it's the only one we've got and the only one worth having. I'd rather have a U.S. or Canadian or British democracy than a dictatorship. I'm an apolitical person but I can see what forms of goverment are wrong in the world. Like I said, Western democracies may not be perfect. But they are better than the alternative.

Yeah, I know, and it's sickening.
I've seen many pictures of Bush w/ Hitler or Mussolini, Bush with the swastica, etc.
However, this topic should really be in WN.

I vote Kerry, because I don't think Bush is any good for the world. I don't think Kerry is much of a democrat, more a democrat-republican if you compare it to Dutch standards. But that isn't the issue. I would vote for Kerry because I think he has better idea's about healthcare and he is pro-abortion, and Bush is not. Also one of the reasons why I don't like Bush.
So.. I don't think Kerry would be absolutly the best for the US, but he's in any case better than Bush I think.

George Bush. Man with standards, a compassionate person with a great deal of integrity to his name. He sincerely wants what is best for the American people, and he will not let other countries dictate our own. Not to mention Republican values, which are a definite plus to me.

I voted Kerry. Because of what was asked I cant detail all my reasons.

But some reasons include, Bush had 3 years after September 11th and the Dot Com burst to fix things and they got worse.
His theological reasoning including "protecting the definition of marriage", Condemning stem cell research which could save thousands (Which Christopher Reeves was an activist for), and Abortion is not something a president should have. The greater good should be thought of.

As a canadain I agree with some points and dissagree with some points from everyone that has posted. I have not yet clearly stated my political stance in the US, but have in Canada. From what i've herd bush and kerry are great people and leaders. But there cant be two presidents and if there could both of them deserve it.

I also reember reading something about governement. The western way of governemnt will always be the way for us, even though it has its flaws. There are many types of goverments, all with thier disadvantages and aadvantages, it all depends on the type of people.....they set the standereds and governement.

Anyways thats my little bit for now.....keep inputing this is getting intresting.

What, liberating two countries and helping America get back on the financial and defense track after 9/11 isn't doing anything good for the world?

He's done MANY things good for the world. I was asking you about them.
1) He liberated Afganhistan.
2) He liberated Iraq.
3) He got us back up to defensive standards.4
4) He lead us through 9/11 very well.
5) He's gotten us farther out of the financial crises of the Dot-Com burst, Clinton's recession, and the economic impact of 9/11...

To name a few.

Did he? He maybe liberated them, but he didn't finish the job very well. The taliban-regime still isn't gone, and they're having a hard time rebuilding the country. He did liberate them, but when you start something, you must finish it. I still think he could -and can- do/done a lot more to help them.

Quote:

Yes, from Saddam, but see my store at nr 1. Liberating is one thing, rebuilding is the hard part.

Quote:
3) He got us back up to defensive standards.
Defensive standards? For what? What is the threat? Terrorists? That's an exaggeration. Yes, there are terrorists. But if Amerika has done a better job, 9/11 may have not have happened. There was a man who knew everything about AlQaeda, and knew that they were gonna strike the US.
I think you 'defensive stratagy' has a little bit of paranoia.

How? When he heard the news he was reading in front of a classroom, and he didn't say anything for about 10 minutes. He has taken more holidays than any other President. Tell me exactly what he has done. Were is Bin Laden? He was the brain behind 9/11, wasn't he? Shouldn't Bush have captured him already? It's 3 years ago!!!!

True, but he's making it a lot harder for the poor people. They don't have health insurance. The rich people are the one who benefit from Bush's government. And are they the ones who need it? No. I don't think so.

There's something else I want to see that I've observed. I don't expect you to agree with me, we're both very different, you're a republican, and I am a democrat. We can never convince eachother, and I don't expect that. I respect your opinion as much as you do mine.

They aren't very influencial anymore, plus things are better, plus we ARE doing the job.

We ARE rebuilding. Of course, a faster pace is needed, at least a bit faster, but nonetheless, we ARE rebuilding.

1. Yes, we could have done a better job in preventing 9/11 IF the CIA was better. But ya know--I don't want us to play the blame game, because if we did, then Clinton would be more at fault, because he presided during EIGHT years and was OFFERED bin Laden by Sudan, and got him on scopes, etc.
2. However, there was NO WAY that we could have known that Osama would have done 9/11 ahead of time. Sure, there were reports and hints saying that he planned to attack the US, such as in the PDB, but that's IT. No what, no when, no how. There was NO way that we could have stopped it in that case.
3. Paranoia? How so?

1. Okay, that was 10 minutes, but NOT with just silence. Sure, much of the time he was sitting there, but he did read a few things. HOWEVER, when you have a bunch of 1st graders or kindergarteners in a room, and the President is supposed to read to them, etc, and he abruptly gets up and says, "I'm sorry, but I have something very important to do," that would have frightened the children, and don't tell me that it wouldn't have, because I've asked some about that scenerio, and they've told me that they would be scared. Plus, what could he have done then?
2) After the school incident, he was GREAT at leading our country through the crises! He gave a FANTASTIC speech, and very well too. It touched everyones' hearts. He lead us VERY well, and don't deny it because of the school situation! Ask Guiliani, ask the police men and firefighters and the military and most people. They'll agree with me!
3) He lead us into Afganhistan and went after the terrorists, disabled much of Al Quada, etc.
4) Osama is MUCH harder to find than you think. If you get a report saying that he's in one area, one military officer said, and you send the order for a missile strike, he's gone by then. Plus, we're on the trail.
5) He has NOT taken more vacation time than any other President! That is not true! Whenever he's on "vacation," he is doing WORK. And if anything Clinton equalled or surpassed that time in a 4 year period!

Quote:

Baloney. Yes, things are bad in that sense, but there's nothing that the government can really do. And NO, that is NOT true that the rich are the ones who benefited! Stop smoking the propaganda--109 million "non-rich" Americans were affected by the tax cuts, even a teacher of mine and a friend's parents, and they are COMPLETELY MIDDLE CLASS!

There's something else I want to see that I've observed. I don't expect you to agree with me, we're both very different, you're a republican, and I am a democrat. We can never convince eachother, and I don't expect that. I respect your opinion as much as you do mine.

I'm Canadian too, eh.

I like neither Kerry nor Bush. I think I stated this somewhere before . . .

Basically, Kerry talks around a point for so long that you either forget what he was talking about in the first place, or it seems like he is a "flip-flopper".

We got to see Bush as president for four years, and I'm not enamored by the possibility of having him for a U.S. president for another four years.

It's not just the war in Iraq, it's just the fact that he consistently has made decisions which I disagree with. I don't think I can say I 100% agree with Bush on anything. I can't say the same thing about Kerry either, but as I said above, that is because I have no clue what Kerry is saying.

Aside from that, which party do I think should lead?

Interestingly enough, we took political affiliation tests in Civics class yesterday. I scored a 35 on one and an 83 on the other, putting me "Left of Centre" or "Liberal".

The Democrats seem to have a better plan for domestic affairs, while the Republicans have a better international view. However, neither party really knows where it's going. Both have "plans" for Iraq, but neither of the parties have a detailled plan that is guaranteed to settle things down. The U.S. is at an impasse right now, with a lot of its resources invested in Iraq.

I'm fairly surprised by how similar the election tactics for both Canada and the U.S. were around. Both parties' candidates joined in the mudslinging. Kerry and Bush, instead of leaving most of the dirty work to their underlings, have both personally joined in throwing insults at each other and engaging in other unsavory campaign tactics. The same thing happend with Martin and Harper. Amazing how dishonest politics can be, eh.

However, I can honestly say that at this point, I really don't have much of an opinion. The fact is, I really can't think of anything to debate about it anymore, and I just want this election to end.

What I'm really anxious to see are the U.S. elections 50-70 years down the road from now.
