How do you feel about having Brent Spiner on Enterprise playing Dr. Arik Soong?
Bringing in Brent Spiner on Enterprise as Dr. Arik Soong is something I really do not agree with the greatest. Enterprise got a huge result in the reaction about canceling the program in season three, but with season four now airing, there are very low ratings. Lower than what they would have guess, I am an Enterprise fan and so far have watched every episode of season 4, and I still think that it can improve in a lot of areas. Bringing in Brent Spiner is nothing more than an attempt at bring a higher rating to the show. I can live with the fact that they are bringing in a few guest stars, but as Dr. Arik Soong is what bugs me a little. You would think that they could have at least made a different character than a Soong for Brent. They have officially overused it now.

I don't think Soong, the character, is overused at all. To my knowledge there was no mention of him in either DS9 or Voyager, and although he was mentioned more than once as Data's creator, Soong the character was only seen in a few episodes.
I think this is an interesting development and I like to see how they introduce the character in season 4.
BTW, what episode is he set to appear in? [edit] NVM, I just read about next week's episode.

if you think that bringing brent spiner in will up the shows ratings then you should be happy about it, you being an enterprise fan and all. i pesonally don't think that this was the producers reasoning.

No- I think he is like the Great, Great Grandfather of Noonien Soong, who created Data.

I'm thinking that if it increases ratings and keeps true to the integrity of the show, they should do it. Enterprise is basically dying in the ratings, and I don't want to see it end. If bringing on Brent Spiner will bring in the TNG fanbase, then hey, more power to the writers of Enterprise.

Actually, enterprise is not dying in the ratings, it has been dead right from season 1
BTW, spiner played the character great! The next 2 eps should be good.

Spiner did a great job with the character. ENT is really looking up this season----it's a vast improvement over seasons 1+2 so far.
Not comparing it to season 3, since that was done in a different format.

Didn't Brent Spiner himself request to have Arik Soong as the villain?

There had to be a starting point to Dr. Soong somewhere, and it was a perfect time to put brent spiner on, he did well on enterprise.
