I was just thinking about an NX shuttlepod,... and it occured to me that the pod (and the NX-01) have blueish impulse exhausts, which are normally red. As for the pod, I understand, having such a big red exhaust would look far too agressive for the Federation. But the NX-01... Why not?

Well, it may have something to do with TOS, Blue was the color of weapons fire and the like.
