It's always been that way. James - Jaime, Jimmy, Jim, etc....

I liked TOS Kirk better than movie Kirk. Movie Kirk seemed much more unsure of himself (except in ST 2) than TOS. Its difficult comparing Kirk to the other captains because TOS was in the 60's and the others in the 90's+, but I thought he was a good captain (with the exception of never figuring out the 'curse of the red shirt').

What did the Borg look like in TOS? I don't believe I have ever seen them on that show.

They weren't in TOS. They were introduced in that TNG episode where Q sends the Enterprise 7,000 light years away from the Federation.

^Oh, it would have been pretty funny to see how Roddenberry would have portrayed the Borg back then, .

I'm really sorry we never saw a Kirk VS The Borg encounter. I had hoped that they'd do a mid-90's movie with such an encounter. It'd be interesting to see what strategy Kirk and Spock would use against The Borg.

*** SPOILER REGARDING STAR TREK:GENERATIONS MOVIE. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE ***

I like Kirk, he is my favourite Trek captain, bar none. I like his style, his no-nonsense approach. To hell with the Prime Directive. But most of all, he was a good human being. And I cried when he died in Generations.

He's the type of guy you'd want to serve under (unless you're a red shirt). He's firm but fair. Cross him and you'll suffer. But there's no better man to have in your corner.

BTW, if Kirk had met Q, he'd have kicked Q's butt back to the Continuum.

Maybe I'm exagerrating on that last point but overall, Kirk is the best. Janeway would be my second favourite though.
