I realize this movie came out before some of the members here were even born but I thought I'd recommend it to you.
Santa Claus The Movie is directed by one of my favourite directors, Jeannot Szwarc. The film is set initially hundreds of years ago and shows us the origin of Santa Claus. After dealing with his origins, we move forward to the 20th century where the head elf, Patch, hooks up with an evil toy maker who intends to put Santa out of business.
Commercially, I think the film flopped although I'd have to check to be sure. I saw it at the cinema in '85 and I loved it. I viewed it years later and still loved it. It was produced by The Salkinds (who produced the Superman and Supergirl movies) and it really is a magical tale, one of my favourite Christmas movies ever. It gives you a good feeling every time you see it and, whilst it may have dated slightly, it should still be enjoyed by most viewers.
If you have the opportunity, check it out.

See it, Amy. I have no idea what Canadian channels are like but it's shown at least every second Christmas over here. Or buy the DVD. Maybe you'll like it.
Just don't let the fact that the film is OLDER than you put you off viewing it.

Now, that is a classic. And not just because it features some barefoot scenes...
