Weeeell...I'm sorry, but I don't think he should do any of the above. Understand, I was once HEAVILY into Astronomy...it was my life...however, I soon realized how FAR we have to go! And turned my attention to the oceans. But...

Space defense? Against? Maybe in detecting nuclear missiles on the ground, but...against meteors? There's little threat. I would see it as a waste. Maybe somoene should consider the idea--a private lab. Not the government just yet.

Astronauts on Mars? WHY?! We have enough problems here. Building a biosphere there is interesting. But get the specs done first. Get some ideas. Send automated stuff up there. Humans don't need to go yet. Study Mars, okay, sure. Government need for it? Nah.

Starfleet is abstract. We still use a big boom to get us off the ground. We're not that horridly advanced. Again, waste, no precedent for it.

With all the problems we already have, I think we need more theoretical research done here, where it's plausible, and doesn't waste so much time and money.
