PostFri Sep 10, 2004 2:32 pm    Lets talk about Politics!

Okay, this is one thing I've been curious about. For those of you people who aren't in the US...elections are coming up soon. Here, post whom you would vote for, why, what things good they have done for the country (whether they were president before or a Senator), and two good qualities about them.

*note- no bashing other people's input. This is people's opinions so everyone won't agree with everything. I heard this on the radio one time and the answers were kind of interesting. Oh, and you can comment on other people's input as long as you follow the rules. Thank you

Sorry for the double posts...I forgot to mention a few more rules...

1) When you say whom you are voting for you can't say things like Bush is... or Bush didn't...or Kerry is... Kerry didn't... (get the pic?)
*note-(for example one thing I heard was someone who was voting for Kerry said they were voting for Kerry because Bush didn't do something)

2) (This is optional and just for curiousity's sake) Say 2 reasons why you don't like the other person you aren't voting for (remember the rules).

And that's about it...sorry for the long explanation...

I would not vote for either of the candidates.

I don't like how Bush spent his first four years of office. He's not ignorant or stupid, et cetera, although I do think he should soften up on his resistance to change.

But I don't know enough about John Kerry to make me vote for him either. If I were an American citizen I'd probably pay more attention.

The scary thing is, Bush reminds me of Stephen Harper (I'm Canadian, eh), which is pretty scary. ::shudders::

Kerry doesn't really remind me of Jack Layton, Paul Martin, nor Giles Duceppe. He's probably a mixture of the first two from what I can tell, because although he is left wing, as with all politicians he must lean a little toward the centre to attract the votes of those in the middle come election time.

So like I said, I don't really know who I would vote for. In Canada's last election I didn't know, because I don't like Paul Martin and the Liberals, but I believe they would be a better choice than Harper and the Conservatives.

I will vote for George W. Bush.

I trust George W. Bush, he's a strong leader and an honest man. He fights for people, and has emotion as a president. He's not the Ivy League type that always runs for office, he seems like a genuinely real person.

And he's also very Christian. He rules America with Religion, like people did in the Medieval ages. He defines things in black and white, good and evil. There is no such thing. There is a grey area between the black and the white, but Bush just doesn't seem to see it.

And Kerry, he has some good points. But he just cant seem to make up his mind. lol.

I'd lean towards Kerry if I could vote, but I'm no supporter of him.

Bush's faith is part of who he is. Naturally it will come across. But if you actually pay attention to bills that have passed, etc..., his religion has very little to do with it. But he shouldn't be expected to turn it on or off.

That would probably be my one major complaint, that he disregards the grey area, which does exist. But I don't think he has overly influenced the U.S. with his personal religious beliefs. There are some grey areas to that effect though

Alright, in a time of terrorism you HAVE to see the "black and white" of terrorism--GOOD AND EVIL EXISTS IN THIS WORLD, and the terrorists are evil.

This is not my point. My point is that Bush, like most Republican Conservatives, can't see the grey area.

This quote shows pretty well that Bush can't percieve the grey area.

1. He DOES, like me and most others, see the grey area, JUST NOT WITH TERRORISM.
2. That was NOT a statement showing that he doesn't see the gray area! It was a GOOD STATEMENT SAYING THAT IF OTHER COUNTRIES DON'T ASSIST AMERICA IN FIGHTING THIS THREAT THEN THEY ARE WITH THE TERRORISTS which was a good statement and it DOES NOT MEAN THAT HE DOESN'T SEE THE GREY AREA!!!!

Exactly what I mean. Perhaps other nations dont want to give the Terrorists reason to attack them? Have you ever thought that might be the case?

That is one option that falls into the grey area.

By saying that, he did mean that you're either with the U.S or against the U.S, and by his definition then, I believe, with or against Freedom. Good or Evil.

I heard some of his speeches the other day, and from what I could hear I think it looks like he thinks that America is the beacon of good and freedom of the world. That is foolish.

SO WHAT! A country that you are supposed to be "allies" with is attacked and you should HELP THEM OUT!

That is one option that falls into the grey area.

No it doesn't.

Sure, perhaps, which is NOT a bad thing!

HOW THE HELL IS IT FOOLISH!!!! IT IS THE TRUTH!!!! You may not be an American, but damn you for saying that!!

And sorry, I appologize for my attitude today, but I've been watching the coverage of the evil acts of 9/11 and am more passionate than ever before.

1. The only European nation that is officially your ally, I believe, is the U.K, and they joined the war quickly.

2. No it doesn't? Really? Is it evil, then?

3. Just because you dont want to have war, doesn't mean you're against freedom.

4. Do you really believe that America is more free than any other socially advanced country? It is not. America is a nation, not more free than any other socially advanced nation. It may be a big nation, but that doesn't make it the beacon of freedom and good of the world.

No, technically France, Germany, etc are our allies, but didn't come through too well in a time of need.

2. No it doesn't? Really? Is it evil, then?

Which was that about?

3. Just because you dont want to have war, doesn't mean you're against freedom.

Sorry, that wasn't what I really would have said, but I was caught up in the moment. No, it doesn't really mean that.

4. Do you really believe that America is more free than any other socially advanced country? It is not. America is a nation, not more free than any other socially advanced nation. It may be a big nation, but that doesn't make it the beacon of freedom and good of the world.

YES I DO! And you should NOT say that America isn't A becon of Freedom and Hope BECAUSE THAT IS TRUE, DAMN IT! OTHER FREE COUNTRIES OR NOT, WE ARE A BEACON!!!

That's the one it's about.

3. Thats alright. I understand.

4. Explain how you are a beacon, if you're not more free than other free nations, which you aren't.

Okay. That's not good enough to not help your allies.

We have brought freedom to SO MANY COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD! More than France, Britain, Germany, and Spain COMBINED! THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD WANT TO COME TO AMERICA! WE WERE ONE OF THE FIRST COUNTRIES TO GIVE SO MUCH FREEDOM AND WE HAVE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES! WE ARE A BEACON, as could be Britain.

Without our efforts, Britain and France and all of Europe would now be speaking German and the Nazis would still be on their murdereous rampage. Our efforts brought freedom to millions in the Soviet Union. We've freed Afganhistan and Iraq and MANY, MANY other countries.

No, we would not be German, and the Nazis would not be on a rampage. The Soviet Red Army played a key factor in the war, and Hitler would have been beaten eventually. Tito fought back the Nazis in Yugoslavia. Other nations would do the same.

And we've already argued, you and I, about the U.S.S.R. You know I support it the way that Gorbachev wanted it. The way comrade Gorbachev wanted it, was similar to Tito's Yugoslavia, but with a stronger economy.

Granted, what you have done for Afghanistan and Iraq may be good in the future, or it may be disasterous. There is no way to tell.

And it's not that MANY MANY more countries.

Look at history! WE HAVE FREED MORE COUNTRIES THAN MOST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD COMBINED!!!! IF WE HADN'T JOINED THE WAR, EUROPE WOULD BE SPEAKING GERMAN NOW!!! DAMN IT! DON'T SEE THE TRUTH IF YOU DON'T WANT TO!!! NOW GO TO #%#$@ AND LET'S STOP THIS DISCUSSION BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE THE TRUTH.

You practically told me to *beep* off, mate. Not appriciated.

Of course Europe wouldn't look the same as it does now, if it wasn't for you, but we wouldn't be speaking German. We aren't helpless, you know, even if thats what you think. Europe in the 1940's was very patriotic. Practically no one would bow to the Nazis.

Yes you would, and I am SOOOO sorry for what I said. I didn't mean it--truly. I just KNOW that Europe would be under German control for QUITE SOME TIME. Patriotism wouldn't have mattered too much.

But the U.S. didn't even join WWII until after Pearl Harbor.
