Nowadays, I tend to dip in and out of superhero comics unlike years ago, when I used to read DC and Marvel on a regular basis.
Anyway, DC Comics have started publishing a seven-part series called Identity Crisis, which sees superheroes such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman plagued by self-doubt and guilt.
The plot is about a woman called Sue Dibny, wife of the Elongated Man from the Justice League. Dibny is raped and murdered and the superheroes, at her funeral, antagonize over what role they may have indirectly played in her death.
Personally, I find it an interesting premise. For years, superheroes, whilst a load of fun, were not characters us mere mortals could identify with. Only since about the 80's were they humanized and given real feelings (however, Stan Lee paved the way in the 60's when believable heroes such as Spider-Man and The X-Men made their debuts).
Anyone planning to read Identity Crisis? Anyone have any thoughts on the premise?
