PostFri Apr 23, 2004 12:43 pm    ST Voyager: Spirit Walk.

I was just reading around TrekToday and discovered that two new Voyager books are to be released later this year! They even give a short description for the storyline of book books.

Spirit Walk #1: Old Wounds
Captain Chakotay is ready to prove himself as the new commanding officer of the Starship Voyager--but skeptics back at Starfleet Command are watching him closely for any sign that he will revert to his renegade Maquis ways. His first mission as captain, to transport a group of displaced colonists back to their home planet of Loran II, seems easy enough: make sure the planet is safe for colonization, unload the settlers, and head back to Earth. He even has an extra reason to enjoy the trip--his sister, Sekaya, has joined the mission as a spiritual advisor to the gentle, peace-loving colonists.
But when the crew arrives at Loran II, they discover a mysterious storm, an ominously deserted settlement--and a hidden threat from Chakotay's past that could destroy them all. Will Chakotay's first mission as captain of Voyager also be his last?

Spirit Walk #2: Enemy Of My Enemy
Captain Chakotay and his sister, Sekaya, are being held captive beneath the surface of Loran II by a Changeling--an outcast Founder masquerading as a member of Chakotay's crew. To Chakotay's horror, the Changeling gives the two prisoners over to the infamous Cardassian scientist Crell Moset, who plans to use Chakotay's Sky Spirit-enhanced DNA to create a super-species that will bring him the fame and acceptance he craves.
Leaving Chakotay and Sekaya to their fate, the Changeling assumes Chakotay's image and infiltrates the Starship Voyager, putting the entire crew at risk. Dr. Jarem Kaz and Lieutenant Harry Kim, increasingly suspicious of their captain's odd behavior, turn to Admiral Janeway and Lieutenant Commander Tom Paris for help. As Paris races to save Voyager from catastrophe, the real Chakotay must undertake a "Spirit Walk" that could set him and his sister free--or lead to their ultimate destruction....

.. and the covers for both:

I must admit Commander Boring isn't one of my favourite characters...and all that nonsense (IMO) about spirit guides used to bore me...sounds like the book is going to be based on that sort of thing so it doesn't really appeal to me.

I had hoped that the crew would all come back together somehow but, at this point in time, it doesn't look like they are...

I completely agree. Get over the damn spirit walks. Those are two books I won't be reading.

Ditto to all of the above... Chakotay is one big boring storyline. Didn't they realize this when they were writing these novels... did they not do any market research to what fans may want!?!?

I think we all have to remember who's writing it,

There is nothing wrong with Christie Golden

I doubt I'll be reading these books, because Chakotay isn't my favourite character. Some people like him though.

I think her writing style is the best of all the Voyager authors with the possible exception of Jeri Taylor (sorry if that's spelt wrong) - it's just the premise of the book I don't like.

I love the fact Picard does so many things yet the writers didn't make him Admiral...Janeway is back on Earth ten seconds and gets promoted.

Didn't Picard refuse promotion a few times throughout TNG?

And the difference is that Christie Golden's novels are a continuation of the series... what happens next. There aren't any TNG re-launch books that I know of.

Picard did refuse them but the writers or star trek could have made him admiral...They obviously didn't think Janeway and Voyager had much of a future so they made her admiral...whereas Captain Picard is still open for many adventures.

That's because.. nobody likes Janeway. So they got her out of the picture for the most part So hopefully in the books... Chakotay won't make it... Tuvok will quit Starfleet, and then Tom Paris could be the captain because he's cool.

Anyway, yeah, I think these books look kind of like crap too. Who wants to read about Indians? I'll probably read them anyway, though. Can't give up on Voyager that easily

Chakotay is not boring only to those that hate him. He does have humor, just don't see it in my opinion.

Wow tough crowd......

Do my eyes decieve me? Did they say CHANGELING? Yay! About time the greatest species ever to be introduced into Star Trek deals with the VOY crew (part of them at least). Im sure they'll kill him off in some pathetic way but we all know a Changeling could beat all of em.

BTW....I think Chakotay is cool. *Runs for cover*

*Hurls a bunch of tomatoes at Founder* lol j/k.

This sucks-CHAKOTAY SUCKS!! What was Christie Golden THINKING when she started writing these books???? Great, more crap about Indians.....oooooh soo interesting....what the hell happens to the rest of the friggin' crew!! Where's the substance??? Where's the real story.....don't you think Ms. Golden could've come up with something a little more creative than this??? And Triam, you have no idea how wrong you are-millions of people like Janeway.....but Tom IS cool...at least he plays some kind of role in the damned book.... who on God's yellow-green earth is gonna wanna read about friggin' SPIRIT WALKS-certainly not me....

I can't wait! I think Chakotay was a great character- the writers just gave up on him too soon!

And I like the author, I think she did a wonderful job on Homecoming and the Farther Shore.

I agree Chakotay is the worst character!! But I bought Spirit Walk tonight when I realized it was out. I really like Christie Golden and I'm always up for some new Voyager stories. Plus it's a chance to learn about (and laugh at) some indian cultures
