I'll start out with my what-will-be-signature five word review...
This movie was flippin' awesome.
It had everything a good movie should have... giant robots, airplanes, laser pistols, explosions, submarines, torpedos, ninjas, dinosaurs, skeletons... PLUS an on-the-edge-of-your-seat adventure storyline.
The cinematography was second to none, the 1930's-esque picture of black and white with a touch of color. The credits were very long, so many people put an effort into this, as apparent in just the opening credits.
Let's not forget, allusions to other classics. I won't give it away, but the writers and directors knew exactly what they were doing, exactly how to capture the audience correctly. (the guys across the aisle from me didn't like it, but from their comments, I could tell they weren't "in" on the allusions, and Flash-Gordon-like tactics this movie put out)
You want genre? This movie also has it all. A very clever romantic storyline woven in with scene-after-scene adventure, mystery, suspense, comedy, and surprise. You'll love the need for adventure this movie gives you. Buy the soundtrack when you're done! play it in your car! Be your own "Sky Captain" for a day!
This movie gets 5 out of 5 "Totenkopf"s. See The World of Tomorrow today!

Yay, I was planning on seeing it today, actually,
Looks good. In the commercials, Jude Law looks like Ewan McGreggor to me, though, hmmmmm.

I thought he did too, especially in the movie itself. There's one scene... well, remember in Episode one when Obi-Wan falls off the platforms and has to grab on and pull himself up? There's a scene bit akin to that. There's a real strong likeness to McGregor.

I've been meaning to see it, but i'm sure because those commercials don't really tell you what it's about. I guess i'll try to get out to the movies later this week and see it.

I've heard good things. Too bad I don't know a soul where I am to watch it with.

Jude Law is a copy of the great Ewan Mcgregor and will never be as good as him.
The whole skycaptain thing reminds of me of Tom Paris' program in the holodeck "Captain Proton." Which I hated so im hesistant to seeing this movie.

Sky Captain was a parody of the 1930s esque type of movie. so was Captain Proton, so yeah, they were supposed to be a like in that sense. I thought Captain Proton was awesome, though...

Then you will be glad to know that they are now making Captain Proton comic books based on toms hollow-program! I have seen an add for them on at least two TREK Web-sites this past week.

It reminds me of the game "Crimson Skies" for PC and then later, XBOX. Don't ask me why.
Angelina Jolie looks good in it though.

It looks all stupid to me and I wouldnt spend my money. All it is that the actors are infront of a blue screen and its been done on a computer.

yeah, but uh.. lots of movies have been done just like the. Matrix, for instance. And I'd go see Sky Captain any day over The Matrix. SC at least had a good story line.

The Matrix!? Not a good storyline!? The Matrix was ground-breaking! OK maybe the sequels weren't so good but the first one was pretty damn original.
I haven't seen SC yet but from what I've read about it, it gets mixed reviews but I can't see it having the same genre defining impact as the Matrix...
Of course, that's only my opinion lol.

but then again, it does take a certain amount of knowledge of film history, cinematography, etc to see that it's a brilliant piece of parody...
... but I go see evey movie whether it looks boring or not, so you don't have to take my word for it

I finally watched it! It was really really good, although there were some very cheesy parts, it was still a great movie!
