Upon watching The X-Files movie tonight, I realized there are very different theories pertaining to Earth's first major contact with an alien race.

Parallel Star Trek: First Contact and The X-Files: Fight the Future :

In First Contact the alien species involved are bonevolant, meeting humanity with acceptance and the sharing of knowledge

In Fight the Future the alien species involved holds ill will to all of mankind, wishing to use humanity as gestation for their own kind

In First Contact, contact with the alien species is a surprise to all of mankind (the temporal ones), including any kind of government

In Fight the Future contact with this alien species is already known of by and kept secret by government and high ranking officials, coming as a surprise only to those who uncover the conspiracy

(as that goes) In First Contact contact with the alien species is not a conspiracy

In Fight the Future contact with the alien species is "a global conspiracy, reaching down to the lives of every man, woman, and child on the planet"

In First Contact, first contact is not made until far into the future

In Fight the Future, first contact is made almost presently
