PostFri Jun 25, 2004 5:28 pm    Superman/Spider-Man Movie-should there be one?

At work today, someone told me that he had heard a rumour that one day, Warner Bros. and Marvel Studio's wanted to team up and do a Superman/Spider-Man movie. Hmmm, interesting.

The two have met in the comics before. In the first Superman/Spider-Man crossover from the late 70's, both took on Lex Luthor and Dr. Octopus. They teamed up again in the early 80's to take on Dr. Doom and The Parasite. And in the 1996 DC VS Marvel crossover, Peter Parker met up with Clark Kent.

A movie with both heroes would be fantastic and I would walk barefoot across hot coals to see it. But it'll be a long time coming...

Tobey Maguire has done a good job with Spider-Man and it looks like the sequel will be even better than the first.

The Superman character is still in movie limbo, I wonder whether WB will ever get this one off the ground! I'd love to see a Superman movie soon.

If, and only if, a Superman movie is made and it is a success, then I hope one day WB and Marvel Studio's can team up to do a movie. It would be kind of cool, don't you think?

I dunno. I wouldn't really like it if Superman met Spider-Man. They should stay in their own worlds.

It's like in Star Trek. Whenever the writer take an actor (actress) from one Star Trek series and put them in another Star Trek series. It's dangerous bacause in most cases you tend to twist and bend the continuity. It does work but I think the writers just do it to boost the ratings.

I just have this feeling that both Superman and Spider-Man live in different worlds that can't be combined. Besides, what if they do it, what's next? Superwoman? Godzilla? X-Men? You can go on and on for ever and try all kinds of combinations.

Some things definitely can't be combined. For example, I don't think a Superman/X-Men crossover would work or Batman/Iron Man. It all depends on the characters.

Whenever Superman and Spider-Man have met in the comics, the stories have been good. But that's comics, on film it could be impossible to make work.

The major problem with a film is giving equal time. Take the Freddy VS Jason film. I loved the movie;however, it felt like a Freddy movie with Jason as the guest star.

If a Superman/Spider-Man movie was to be made, it would mean the people behind it having to please a very significant number of people. Potentially, a movie could upset Spider-Man fans if it was done wrong. Or it could upset Superman fans if it was done wrong. Or worse still, it could alienate fans of both heroes.

If every they do meet on screen, it needs to be an equal partnership IMO. So, no having Superman rescue Spidey every five minutes. No Spidey having to save Superman from Kryptonite every five minutes. No one hero should hog the spotlight-it should be equal.

But this is all hypothetical. First, WB has got to revive the Superman character and make him into one worthy of a franchise. It'll be years before we see a Superman/Spider-Man movie (if we do at all).

This cant happen because Spider-man is owned by Marvel and Superman is owned by DC Comics.

But if the movie were to come Dean Cain would have to be superman.

Such a movie could happen if WB/Marvel Studio's/Sony could come to some sort of arrangement (ha, no chance of three very rich corporations doing that, is there?).

But even if they could agree, I don't think either studio would risk such a venture yet. Not until there have been a few more Spider-Man films and a few Superman movies.

It would only be cool if Toby Maguire played Spider-man and some big buff guy played Superman (Hmm...maybe Arnold Schwarzeneger)

Arnie is too old to play Superman and besides, he has a political career now. It needs to be a strong and handsome guy but not an overgrown bodybuilder.

On the theme of superhero-crossovers, there was a TNG novel that had the crew of the Enterprise D teaming up with the X-Men somehow though I never read it lol
