I was thinking about the various rules in life, particularly in the workplace.

You can understand most rules. Such as signing a form if you handle large amounts of money or cheques. You can understand traditional rules such as not using workplace equipment for personal use.

But I think some rules are outdated and often useless.

Recently, I forgot my ID pass for the workplace. Now, I have been working at my current job for a VERY long time. And I know the security guards personally. When I arrived without my pass one day, the security guard was ready to just let me go through. However, the visiting Security Manager insisted I be searched and fill in a form.

If I had been a visitor to my workplace, I could have understood such a precaution. But like I said, I have been working there a long time and am known to the security guards AND the security manager. Personally, I think it was a waste of time for me to be searched and fill in forms and go through loads of bureacracy. After all, if I were a terrorist or something else, I'd hardly try and enter a building without some ID (fake or otherwise).

And, when I look around my workplace, I find many bizarre rules which seem to have no purpose. In fact, some of them seem to exist solely to make life difficult for employees and employer. Some rules make no sense at all. I have no problem with rules that help or protect people but some of them do nothing but hinder. With the example I gave above, it took awhile for me to be searched and to fill in two seperate forms.

Are there any rules in life you think are bizarre? This is a topic I would be interested in reading views on.

I know your just venting, granted a terrorist wouldn't go through the trouble of a fake id. my personal opinion a place that needs security, need officers that do their job.
I think they let it go so to say, I'm sure you didn't like being searched and giving them information they probably already had, my personal opinion, they could have had you drive back and get your id, or not let you in at all.

I thought that whole liquor stores not being open on Sunday thing was the stupidest law. But, they got a rid of that,

There is a law, still on the books, that a woman cannot drive unless a man is running in front of her, swinging a lantern, and warning everyone. Can we see how outdated this is? Thank God they never enforce it,

(especially since I've never met a man who can run faster than I drive)

There's a law here that says we can shoot Scotsmen, just not on Sundays (I think that's what it is, anyway).

Some laws and rules are stupid, but others we need. There's currently a debate going on about uniform (one school's so strict they're sending pupils home with the wrong coloured socks... I would never have been in!) I believe that if the uniform is reasonable (unfortunately most aren't) they're ok. After all, most workplaces have some sort of dress code, and it does reduce bullying to some extent.

I'm not sure, but I think there's a law (prob'ly state) saying you have to warn someone 24 hours before you kill them.
