PostMon May 02, 2005 11:28 am    Endgame - The ending

Was it just me or was anybody else confused over the last ten minutes of Endgame part 2..?

One minute the Borg sphere was pursuing Voyager towards the Alpha quadrant, then they've 'altered course' in the wormhole which we are led to believe is back to the Delta quadrant! The next thing we know the sphere exits in Federation space.... and then Voyager comes from somewhere (???) and blows the sphere apart with weapons that we thought had been assimilated by the Borg and were no longer effective!!!!(or they would have destroyed it in the Transwarp Hub...???)

Am I the only person who thought that this fantastic episode left them wondering what the hell was going on...???!!!

The way I understand it... Voyager was inside the sphere. Their weapons were effective because they were firing inside the ship.

Now thats the conclusion that I came to as well - but the only thing that doesnt make sense is that Borg sphere's arent that much bigger than Voyager itself!

In Dark Frontier they choose to attack one to steal the transwarp 'coil' and the size difference didnt seem that great, especially at the end of Endgame when Voyager flies through as it seems to have come up from behind it somehow...

Watch those last ten minutes again a few times - it just doesnt seem to fit together!?!

(Still my favourite episode though!!)

The wya i remmber it is that Voyager entered the Transwarp hub and was heading for the Alpha Quadrant, Admiral Janeway is taking over the collective from the Queen (temporarly) so no vessels can pursue.
From inside the Hub Voyager deploys his armor and Blows up the Corridor systematicly. Sphere 634 is still in the Queens control however and Pursues Voyager and attacks them (if i'm not mistaken.) The Sphere is winning the battle and the Armor is failing. Then janeway orders Tom Paris too alter course. Then the SPhere alone comes out of the hub, awaited by starfleet. But then the Sphere blows up and Voyager comes flying out of the rubble, having blown up the sphere from the inside.

The course altering was obviously too get inside the sphere, however, some believe the Sphere Used a tractor beam too beam it inside so they could assimilate it.

A Borg Sphere is huge by the way, it has a diameter of about 600 meters.

Thanks for all your input!

On the subject of the sphere though, I wouldnt say it was 'huge' - the Enterprise E is quoted in First Contact to be over 700m in length so whilst a sphere is indeed larger than Voyager it is by no means a massive ship! (like a cube!!)

The Enterprise-E is just under 700m

There are lots of different kinds of spheres. The sphere we see in first contact is just a small scout shere. The Spheres we see in voyager ("Dark Frontier", "Drone") are Long range tactical sheres This is the biggest borg sphere you can get. In "Unimatrix Zero" we also see a shere. Thats either a Long range tactical sphere or a standard shere. I'm not exactly sure.

Yeah, and if you play Elite Force 2, it also says Voyager was pulled into the sphere with a force field or something of the sort. And it's gotta be some what legitimate, Because Star Trek had to approve the storyline and everything in it.

That makes sense as to how it got inside then - make more sense than them just altering course and flying in!!!

Wasnt the sphere ordered to destroy Voyager though before it got back to the Alpha Quadrant otherwise the timeline would not be broken and the pathogen that infected them would not be stopped?

yeah, thanks lionhead.. I was confused on that part too. I had thought maybe voyager had gone really low and let the sphere fly over it.. But that is impossible. So thanks for clearing that up for meee!

The timeline would not be restored, another dimension was formed the moment Admiral Janeway leaped back in time. Her timeline dissappeared when Voyager managed too get too the Alpha Quadrant. I don't think the borg would have tried too restore the timeline again.

or did you mean something else?

Lionhead, what I meant was when the borg Queen caprtures the future Admiral Janeway she assimilates all of the knowledge. She then orders the sphere tp destroy Voyager saying to the Admiral .. "if she does not exist then you will not exist, and none of what you have done here today will matter"

Thats why I thought the sphere was hell bent on destrying Voyager instead of capturing it, and thats the reason I thought it was strange that they ended up inside it and not destroyed.

Granted, the idea of what happens makes perfect sense when you guys explain it, but when you look at then ending in detail it was not clearly put across and left questions unanswered!!

philbo, looks like you just opened the disscusion again!

In my view voyager simply flies out behind the sphere and kiks it in the butt before it can rasie its shields, as the voyager had superior weopenry!

No, it wasn't behind it, it was inside it. Its a fact. Btw, a Borg ship doesn't have shield that protects the Outer hull.

i guess in the long run the Sphere didn't really expect Voyager too go inside. It could well be that the Sphere understood it could not Destroy Voyager, at least not untill it reached its destination. So when Voyager headed inside the Sphere the Borg must have thought it would be an advanctage for them too have the Ship inside so they could destroy it.

Just a speculation.

It makes sense that was how Voyager managed to destroy the Sphere- it isn't as though the Borg would protect its inside, because that wouldn't normally be vulnerable to attack. But what I didn't get was that it seemed Voyager was incapable of going to the Alpha Quadrant and they changed course to the Delta Quadrant. I've been reading back a few posts, but that still confuses me. Help?

I think when Janeway asks Tom Paris where the nearest exit was and he said the Delta Quadrant, she orders the course change but LEADS you to believe its back to the Delta Quadrant when as Lionhead points out its actually INTO the sphere instead!!!

Its works when you think about it - just a bit confusing to start with!

I'm curious, how do you know that Voyager was in the sphere. How is that a fact. I thought that Voyager had somehow gotten behind the sphere and blown it up. But, like someone else posted, if you play EF2, the first mission is getting out of the Borg sphere. So I do believe that Voyager was inside the sphere, but how is this a proven fact?

Voyager was inside the sphere, that's how they destroyed the sphere so easily. from the inside out. that's why we see, (the last two mins) the inside of the sphere, and then the torpedo coming at us and blow up.
it's a proven fact b/c star trek said so. that's how. it's fully explained in the introduction of EF2, which star trek had to authorize, and we see that voyager launched the torpedo from INSIDE the sphere. hello, go watch it again and you'll see the inside of the sphere, then the torpedo coming at you from INSIDE the sphere.
