 Wed Apr 07, 2004 7:05 pm What was the name of the 2nd defiant class given to DS9? |

The Defiant i know was destroyed by the Breen.But SF gave DS9 a new defiant class vessel.What was its name does anyone know.Was it called the Defiant-A?Or was the name never given?

it was originally the Sao Paulo, but starfleet gave permission to change the registry number and name to that of the original Defiant.

Yes, it was the Sao Paulo. Although when I first heard them say it, I thought it was a Vulcan name, S'Palo. (I was wrong, though.)

They get it in the Episode "The Dogs of war" and Sisko has Special Orders from Admiral Ross to rename it "Defiant" from "Sao Paulo" like Capt. Jd said

yep it was the sao paulo. The shields on that ship had been completely reconfigured, so they were better than the origional defiants

Technically, when they got the second Defiant it should have been USS Defiant NCC 74205-A, but they couldn't spare the cost to reshoot all the visuals of the ship when they only had a few episodes of DS9 to go. So the registry remains NX 74205.
