Maybe it's all part of the training? Perhaps, whe becoming an officer, one needs to have some helm experience (like 3 months of helm control before they can contiue).

In that case, they could rotate the helm officers...

oh and im sure warf was for a short while

but u think that the Federation Flagship would have more steady officers rather that lots of beginners

wesley crusher not even in starfleet
and Ro isn't a part of starfleet AND she was in prison before she was sent to the enterprise on a mission to find terrorists and THEN she went on and undercover mission to infiltrate the marpuis and ended up becoming one!

the Enterprise (TOS) only had on helm officer (senior staff)
the Defiant only had one
the ENTERPRISE NX-01 has only had one

or maybe they just couldn't find the wright actor lol

Geordi La Forge was the Enterprise's Helm officer in the first season. He didn't really have a lot to do there, and there was no main cast member playing the Chief Engineer, so he was promoted. They could then put Wesley there when his character was finally allowed on the Bridge, and when Ro Laren came along, it was the perfect place to stick her, too.

Lt. Torres, she was never at the helm of Enterprise-D. She was Engineer of Voyager.

Not that Lt. Torres. The one in enterprise (first 3 episodes) was a human male.
His name was Lt. Torres

i believe the "helm" position works on a shiftlike rotation
this would mean that there would be 3 or 4 diferent people running the helm ion one day
this would explain the different people seen running the helm and would also make sense, due to the fact that one person running the helm constantly would never be able to sleep!

Every position is like that

but were thinking of it as reocurring characters on a TV show not as if it was actually a starship.
