Stolen packages, lost letters take toll on war-zone morale

Troops, families, lawmakers, and congressional investigatiors have a special-delivery message for defense officals: Fix problems with the military mail system.

A mounting wave of anecodotal evidence, blostered by General Accounting Office report, shows that problems with delays, disappearances, and thefts within the system take a toll on the morale of troops in Iraq and their families at home.

The mail is taking way too much time to get to its destination- if it makes it there at all, Dayon Dillihunt, a soldier deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, wrote in an email. He is with the 2nd Brigade of the Hawaii-based 25th infantary Division.

Dillihunt, who did not get his rank, said mail is big morale factor. It's a shame that- our most secure, cheapest, and convenient form of communication [is] failing.

I got that from the army newspaper.

I feel for them. I know how they feel. When Charlie was over there the first time, He got alot of my letters then when he came back then they decide to send them. And he is going back after July. I will be the meanest you know what if he don't get my letters.

When he was over there, I heard they was opening up our letters and reading them before they gave them to the soldiers. Ok, I am for the war and for Bush. But I don't agree with the mail system is screwed up pardon my language.

I saw an marine he even said the mail system is messed up when he was over there. Guess it just not the army lol.

I know my nerves will be in an uproar after July. Charlie said no news is good news. Longs as I don't see no black car pulling up and Chaplain comes to the door. He said he would call and when I don't hear from him don't worry that when he said no news is good news.
