9/11 here's one of mine

Here's a poem I wrote about it... its prose (as in unrhyming iambic pentameter ) Just a personal experience and thought... tell me what you think...

(no title)
See, my dad heard about it on TV,
We flipped to CNN and saw the plane.
Everyone thought it was an accident.
In class that morning the principle came
Over the intercom. She was crying.
Ms. B turned on the television then
And we watched in horror, the towers fall.
It felt so far away, and yet so close.

Sixth period was US History,
Our teacher there was crying too. She said
We were witnessing history right then.
The rival class next door became our friends
For a day or so in the wake of it.
Lots of kids here are military brats,
With so many Air Force bases nearby,
It felt so close, and yet so far away.

Patriotism, they said, was a ploy.
Presidents used it in the case of war
So the country would side with decisions.
�How could they do this to us? Will we take
This from them?� Yeah, it�s good enough for some.
But tell me about the guilt that I feel,
The guilt for not being able to help
Feelings close it away, but not so far.

Who could have made a difference that day?
Would it have made a diff�rence, do you think?
Dear Lord, we need some help down here on Earth...
You feel so close, and yet so far away.
