|
I've recently heard a lot about this Saturday, February 7, being the 40th anniversary of the Beatles arrival in the USA. My local oldies station has even sponsered a recreation of the event with a Beatles tribute group from Liverpool called Yesterday.
In honor of the start of the British Invasion and the legacy of the Beatles (which is still strong enough to create a media frenzy), I'd like to know:
What's Your Favorite Beatles Song?
Mine is....
"Your Mother Should Know"

Rather biased poll, only includes two groups
I just forgot my favorite Beatles song, and I asked my mom the other day what it was titled and everything, too! I'll have to add it when it's not so late.

^The poll is biased. It's just I've always heard people talk about this big rivalry between those groups as to which is the "GREATEST" rock group of all time.

Personally, for quite a long time, I was rather adamant about the Monkees being better than the Beatles. I know their songs better, and was introduced to them first.

I second that imo they were weak if they let a woman break them up and the rolling stones are just a bunch of geezers who don't know they should retire.

My favourite Beatles songs are Yesterday and Smithdown Place... errr... sorry, Penny Lane
Useless fact: I went to the same school as John Lennon, and you can buy a postcard in some Liverpool gift shops with some of my school friends on it (if you look really hard!).
I also like the Rolling Stones and the Monkees, but the Beatles will always win for me. Maybe it's because I used to live around the corner from Penny Lane and Smithdown Place (which is the street the song's really about... it's opposite Penny Lane).
Smithdown Place is in my ears and up my nose.
Sometimes it even gets between my toes when I wear open sandals
(Tune and original lyrics John Lennon/Paul McCartney, revised lyrics Jane Matzk).

There's one about a girl named Eleanor Rigby, and I'm not sure if that's the title of the song. But I like the lyrics to it.
Mom still can't remember the name of the blasted song. But we think it might be called "All my Lovin'." It was about sending a letter to the girl he loved.

None of the above.
The Stones were the bettet of the two, but not the best by any means, they can rock, but they are nothing special.
The Beatles were the most overrated band of all time. How they ever became big is beyond me, especially when you had so many great alternatives arising in the late 60s. The beatles had a few good songs though, and I'd call 'Yesterday' their best. McCartney's solo 'Live and Let Die' was better yet though, and I would call it the best song by a Beatle's artist.
If I had to label a truly great Rock group, all things considered, I'd say the Moody Blues were atop for the greatist band ever, 'Question' would be their top song.
My favorite rock band is Rush, but people would vehemently object to me calling them the greatist, in many ways. Though I will say Rush is, in terms of musical proficiency, the best ever, listen to the great instrumentals 'YYZ' and 'Leave That Thing Alone' to see what I mean.
