50 Saddlebred Horses are Starving at "Pleasantunions" ranch

The 2 yr old Filly on the left Died Recently due to Starvation. She had a halter left on that was too small for her to open her mouth enough to eat, poor feed, lack of worming, competition and overcrowding..... i.e. owner neglect and ignorance.
Another died the week previous, dragged off to a corner of the farm, left for the dogs. I found skeletons from years past. There are many more that need help, even though the Vet and I instigated a treatment plan, the owner refuses to continue to follow through to care for them properly. " This is an old ongoing repeating problem and keeping John attuned to the continued care has had repeated failures." Don the Vet told me. I personally saw Johns failure to follow through with their care when left to his own decisions. I came to help the horses and found these appalling conditions. I got them all wormed but it was like pulling hens teeth to get the owner to come up with the meds. Than getting him to buy decent hay was a similar ongoing ordeal, due to "I can't afford to feed good quality hay". On days I tested him, left to his own choice, he would purchase the cheapest he could find, severely moldy round bales.

Why? How could anyone let this happen. Severe malnutrition, epidemic skin fungus infections, severe worm infestation, overcrowding, barbwire wounds, survival of the fittest, (some are in fair condition), inadequate feed and feeding practices..... I witnessed neglect, laziness, (daily, weekly, months, and years), ignorance, "caring" without action, minimal action/attention, excuses, blame on all and everything but himself....., I lost all respect for this uncaring inhuman being. There is so much I witnessed, beyond words, that I will save for the courts and interviews. This individual doesn't deserve these wonderful creatures and has proved beyond a reasonable doubt to be incapable of caring for them. Worse yet there are a dozen mares due soon.

I stabilized the herd from immediate death, and left Campbellsville, KY. to start this rescue project so as to gather support, acquire funds to be put in a trust fund for them, find help (I couldn't due this alone), alert humane and news agencies, and am willing to return to testify in court as needed. A trust fund is established to use in any way needed to care for them. We will remove them via the local humane society (although this may end them in a feed lot), have an agency oversee their care, adopt them out, or a group like PETA take him to court.

Let these pictures speak for themselves. I'm sorry for these grotesque photos. If they bring tears to your eyes , imagine the anger and crying I went through as they lay dieing in my arms and feeding them to prevent further suffering and deaths.

The youngest ones, less than a year, and far right, a three year old.

Another, condition makes aging difficult (probably 3 Yrs+)

The hay there

Fence conditions. They fight from both sides, over food hung in tires on barbwire fences. Most falls out on the ground where they eat with gravel.

It's going to get worse. One of a dozen pregnant mares due soon.

Please help these wonderful creatures.

1) Send a dollar to: Sweetheart Trust Fund, 51 Mt. Tea Lane, Alexander, N.C. 28701

2) Send a suggestion. e-mail [email protected]

3) Pass the word via an e-mail referencing this site (copy complete address and paste in outgoing e-mail).

4) Notify an agency or support group. P.E.T.A. has been notified.

5) Save one and take to a caring individual. Taylor County Humane society in Campbellsville, KY. is being contacted, again. or

6) From Campbellsville KY. go about 5 Mi north of north on Hwy 210, left on Fallen Timber Rd , 100 yards, than right at the Church on Williams (or Pleasant Union Church Road), the farm is just NW of the Microwave Tower.

Don't worry, they won't be farming much longer. I grew up on a farm and I can tell you that if the animals aren't well taken care of your farm will fail!!!! Farming is one of those professions were you can only get out what you put in- you can't just decide not to take care of your animals. I mean, c'mon, you almost have to try to starve a horse- they eat grass!

UPDATE:

Quote:
I thought you all would like to know how things are coming along with the horses.
(taken from ASBML)
"Just to update everyone....I am now in the Campbellsville area & was in court
today. It has a continuation date of Friday at 9:30 a.m., due to a Humphress
new lawyer needing more time to prepare. The judge comes from a family that
raises Standardbreds. After looking at the latest pictures of the horses
says, I know what a horse should look like, when it looks poor because of worms
and a horse that is malnurished. xxxxxx He ended with saying that this was
not a case of worm medication not being in the feed (Humphress excuse). THe
judge also said he would be embarrased to call any one of those horses his
(because of their condition.)

Lexington's TV Channel 18 was there. Interviewed me, John Harris & Barbera
Warner, from Marion COunty SPCA. The local paper was there. Also made front
page on that paper this morning, but they seemed to take Humphress side in this
article. We will see what the follow up will be after the judges comments.
A radio station that I contact was also there. It was on their news shortly
after getting out of court."
(Hope again.. just wanted you to know the comments down here are mine, and those above are someone on the list) I personally am glad to see that the judge is a fellow horse person. It looks like the way things went with him today will help.

That was from Hope, from ludusequinus.com She has been in contact and informs of new updates.
