Chapter 1: The Arrival
As he walked into the village he didn’t know what to expect. He wasn’t even a month out of Adventuring school when he read the poster in the Adventurer’s Guild. It had said: “WANTED: HERO. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. VISIT BEAUTIFUL DELL, FIGHT MONSTERS, DEFEAT BRIGANDS, REWARD AND TITLE OF ‘HERO OF DELL’ TO THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT”. It sounded to good to be true, especially the “No Experience necessary” part. He looked around the town, it wasn’t much, but what did he expect in a backwater place with only a Baron to run it. It took him a month to cross the mountains to get here, and there was no way out either. The snow from the mountains came down in an avalanche, almost killing him. It didn’t kill him, but it left the only path out of the valley closed off.
A fat guy dressed in a sheriff’s uniform got off his chair and greeted him. “Hello son. Welcome to Dell. You’re an adventurer aren’t you?” “Yeah, Hello sheriff.” The adventurer Lone Wolf said. He glanced over and was taken aback. An ugly, incompetent Ogre was playing with a Yo-Yo. What shocked him was on the Ogre’s shirt was a deputy’s badge. “Don’t Mind Hank, He looks mean, but he’s got a heart of gold… Until someone makes him mad.” The Sheriff told him with a glare in his eye. “Thanks for the info sheriff” Lone Wolf said, “Where’s the Adventurer’s Guild in this town?” The sheriff pointed down to the Left. “Down that way, Next to the Tavern.”
Lone Wolf gave a small thank you wave and started to walk to the guild. “This guy’s going to give me trouble.” He thought. He stopped outside the Adventurer’s guild and looked around really quick. There were houses and shops boarded up everyplace. The only thing open here was the “Aces and Eights Tavern” and the guild. A beggar was in an alleyway next to the tavern bowl in hand. Doing a quick equipment check, he made sure he took his lock pick out from under his leather jerkin and put in his backpack. His sword and shield stayed nicely on his back, his coin purse hung from his side. He flipped his cape back behind him and entered the guild.

Closing the door behind him, he waited for his eyes to adjust. Getting a good look inside, he had to stop himself from laughing. The Guild Master had to be around 80 years old and he was fast asleep in a chair with a sword in one hand and a rag with polish in the other. Above the Fireplace were numerous creatures he supposed the Guild Master had slain in his younger years; dust completely covered every one of them.
On the other side of the room was a map of Dell and a Bulletin board, it seemed the board had a number of things on it. He walked over to the Log Book and signed his name. The scratching of the pen was enough to wake the old man from his sound sleep. Oh Im sorry! I was so busy I didnt notice you come in. The old man croaked, Im the Guild Master, Stefan Lucentio. Its about time we got another adventurer in this place; we needed someone to give those Brigands a run for their money. The Guild Master started polishing his sword. And who knows, maybe youll be the one to break the curse that has plagued this valley, and killed so many like yourself for years. Curse? Who cast a curse upon the land? Lone Wolf asked. The Demon Bi*ch Baba Yaga. Years ago the Baron tried to run her out of the valley, she cast her spell on the Baron, basically making him lose everything he held dear.
Everything he held dear? Lone Wolf Asked. Yes, The same day his daughter mysteriously disappeared from her room, and later his son went out with a hunting party and never came back. The Guild master said. Well that would be everything he held dear Wait young adventurer theres more. There came a prophecy with the curse:
There will come a man from the East,
To free the man from the Beast,
Free the child from the band,
And drive the evil from the land.

Well, thats a little more then I expected. Lone wolf thought. Thanks for the information Sir. He told the Guild Master. He walked over to the Bulletin Board where most information for most quests was. Looking at it, he noticed two large, old, notices that were covered in dust and severely worn. The first one had a picture of a smug looking boy; this was the Barons son. There was a reward of 50 gold pieces if he could be brought back safely. The other was a picture of a cute girl, who happened to be the Barons daughter. To bad, shes my type too. He thought to himself. 50 Gold was to be given to the Adventurer to get her back. Looking over at two other posters it appeared that these were the Brigands warrants. 30 gold for he who can bring the Brigand Warlock to Justice and 45 gold and the title of Hero of Dell to he who can bring down the Brigand Leader. Lone Wolf read. Not bad He thought. Walking out of the Guild. Walking around the town he noticed a Magic Shop, it was hard to miss it actually. A large glass eye, the sign of the magic shop, followed his every movement.

Walking in to the Shop he didnt see anyone inside except what appeared to be an overly large bat sitting on top of a perch next to a large crystal ball. Hello? He called out, Anyone in? The ball glowed for a second and a beam of light shot out, blinding Lone Wolf for a minute. Getting his eyesight back he looked around and noticed a Pale, redheaded woman standing in front of him. I am Zara, the Curator of this shop, what do you want. The woman said. Hi Zara, how are you, names Lone Wolf Im new in town and I was wondering what spells you have. I have 3 main spells that should help you young adventurer. Flame Bolt, Open and the Fetch spells. Lone Wolf grabbed his money pouch and opened it. He had only a few gold pieces; just until he was able to procure some the easy way, steal it. How much is the Fetch spell? He asked 20 silver pieces, Zara informed him. Pulling out 2 gold pieces he handed them to Zara and took the scroll from her. Opening it up, he read the runes and they engraved themselves in his mind. He never got sick of the head rush he got from that. Thanks Zara, Hey really quick you want to go out some time? She looked over at him, Young one, I am of Fairy Folk descent and over 250 years old. He thought he saw her smile before she disappeared again, must have been because he was seriously shocked. Too Bad, Shot down again and she was cute too. He told himself as he walked out.

Walking back onto the road he got a faint whiff of beer from the Tavern. With everythinhg else locked up he began to walk over to it. "What the he*l." he thought, "I need a drink anyway" In front of the Tavern he gave it a quick glace over. a decrepit old sign, full of holes, hung over the doorway giving the tavern an ominous feeling. "Screw it" he thought, pushing the door open.
It was overly dark as he walked in, the only source of light being from a single window to his left. As his eyes adjusted, he noticed different things, None of them were good. An overly large ogre sat over what appeared to be a trap door, people who were probably more thieves were sitting at the bar. He watched as they grabed their knives, they were probably intent on killing and robbing him. To thge right of him were 3 men. One was passed out, Most likely completely obliterated, the other 2 were playing cards... he looked at the cards for a minute, it appeared to be something like a 400 card Go-Fish game mixed with Old Maid. Paying no heed, he walked up to the counter and took a seat. "Hey Bartender!" he said, "give me a drink!"
