THE BIG PICTURE

I've noticed recently that everybody seems to flip-flop around issues. Like one week Saddam Hussein is the big story, then it's the mission to Mars, then it's the Democratic Party primaries. And even on one single issue, the media seems to shift around and focus on one particular aspect at a time. Just a while ago Al Gore's endorsement of Howard Dean was big news, now the bis scoop is NC Senator John Edwards' big dark horse victory (even though Kerry really won) in Iowa.

The media bombards the public with one single issue at a time, rather than just giving us the Big Picture, i.e. giving equal attention to all the issues and lettting us derive our own conclusions. For instance, I'd like to see more coverage on the going-ons in Afghanistan .. even if it is old news, it would be nice to see what all our taxes are being used for.

I remember when the Second Gulf War began, we had like 24-hour coverage but now all you see is controlled snippets of the action. Military experts have said the new insurgency movement is more organized and more successful than the weak resistance of the crumbling Ba'ath govt. So, why do I get the feeling that the media is trying to draw our attention away?

I think that that is right, but you are never going to get a fair picture, as people add their own view on what is happening. Also the news would take hours if you reported on all the stories that had happened in the last year or so and what was happening now.
