				| I just wanted to post this to try to show the difference between British and American education - I think you have it better across the pond, guys.

LONDON (Reuters) - A pupil has died after a fight at a school in Lincolnshire and a second student has been arrested, police say.

Police were called to Birkbeck School in North Somercotes just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday after reports that a fight had broken out.

One boy aged 14 was taken to Grimsby Hospital where he died later.

A police spokesman said a 15-year-old pupil had been arrested and taken to Skegness police station. A post mortem will take place later on Tuesday to establish the cause of death.

The school has been closed and is expected to remain closed on Wednesday, police said. The area where the fight took place has been sealed off for forensic examination.

Pupils who witnessed the incident will be interviewed by specially trained officers.

Sky News: Boys Dies In School Fight

A 14-year-old schoolboy has died after being stabbed in a fight at a school in Lincolnshire.

The dead boy, who has not been named, was a pupil at Birkbeck School, in North Somercotes, near Louth. He was taken to Grimsby Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The detained boy, 15, was taken to Skegness police station for questioning.

Lincolnshire Police said they could not identify the boy as the next of kin had yet to be informed.

A police statement was expected later.

Parents have been collecting their children from the school.

A school spokeswoman said headteacher Gary Loveridge would be making a statement later.

Police were called to the school at 10.12am.

The school's 300 parents were called and asked to pick up their children.

Peter Craig, a reporter for the Grimsby Telegraph, told Sky News the parents were in "tears and in terrible shock".

A police spokeswoman said pupils at the school would be interviewed under the vulnerable witness scheme and would be questioned by trained officers with their parents present.

The school will also be closed tomorrow.

Reporter, Jane Elliot of the Louth Leader, described the school as "one of the most popular in the area".

On its web site, Birkbeck school describes its mission as "achieving by caring" and says achievement regularly exceeds the levels expected for its students.

It says it has a strong pastoral care system, with tutors keeping a "close watch on the behaviour, progress and welfare of each child".

The mixed, non-selective school has around 300 pupils, aged between 11 and 16, and was recently awarded specialist arts status.

(Apologies for the longish post, one report was more in-depth than the other)

I'd like to hear your opinions on this, if you'd like to share them!

				| I think schools on either side are violent. Remember Columbine?

				| One thing I don't think you have in America (or England, I'm not sure) are Neds and Bams who walk past you and kick, punch or trip you, laugh and walk away. Just like that. They all wear mera-peak jackets and too much makeup (no offence intended to anyone here). They're generally just annoying people. But almost every lunchtime here there is a fight threatened and a mass exodus to the football pitches where nothing eventually happens.
But anyway. I think it is sickening that someone can kill their own peers. Forgive me for being so naive but what can push someone to that level? Sure, I really don't like some of the people in my year, but I wouldn't kill them. Perhaps, like many of the fights at my school, it was just a spur of the moment thing. But who am I to speculate.

				| It took about an hour for the boy to die. How can someone do a thing like that?

I'm in Scotland, and we have them. The difference is that they wear Kappa and some types of Adidas.

				| There haven't been any fights at my school this year, but usually there is one or more a day. All of something stupid. Like girls fighting because they want the same guy or guys fighting because they want the same girl. All were stupid.

				| No one ever fights about that sort of thing here. We fight about sillier things, such as, in a conversation, you fight because the other person says you're wrong.
And girls never fight at all.

				| The worst I've had in college is being called "Backhouse" which is Johny's surname... was that meant to be an insult?

				| I hate girls how beat up guys who won't fight them due to manners. Not sure if that was the case but if so...
Theres a school near my one and sometimes theres fights between them. Its usually only when first years start, and think the fights are regular, and want resect. After the first few days when they've all been kicked in it calms down.
I walk past it some lunchs and the worse I had is "Get out, this is our area".

				| I can't stand fighting in school. My High School, Last year, had almost 1 fight a day. To many people went to the Hospital due to those fights. It got so bad even the Administrators wouldn't do anything until one of the people was down on the ground. My friend and I had to break up one to many fights.
