So you know, the Dominion War began with the DS9 season 5 finale "Call To Arms" and ended at the end of the series, with the season 7 finale "What You Leave Behind". Over the course of the two year war, spanning 53 DS9 episodes, the war is seen from the front, on the ground, and from the planning table. I'd suggest that you get the season 5, 6, and 7 DVD sets of DS9 when they arrive later this year, for the complete story. Season 5 really sets up the war well, as do seasons 3 and 4, but many other things are also going on then. It is the greatest, most epic story Trek has ever told on TV, in my view.
Key episodes:
season 5
1-2. "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light" - sets up the alliance
3. "Call To Arms" - Start of War
season 6
1-6. First 6 episodes of season 6: 6 ep arc where DS9 is occupied by the Dominion.
7. "One Little Ship" - Key to understanding the Dominion
8. "In the Pale Moonlight" - Romulans, treachery, Garak.
9. "Valient" - This one makes me angry. Nice one for Jake Sisko
10. "Tears of the Prophets" - Tragedy, and a victory.
season 7
1. "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River" - More Dominion nature
2. "Once More Unto the Breach" - Klingon perspective on the war
3. "The Siege of AR-558" - Best war episode, down on the frontlines
4. "It's Only a Paper Moon" - The harsh realities of war, and dealing with it.
5-14. Last 9 episodes of the show, all dealing in one way or another with the war. Begins with "Til Death do us Part".

Very nice list, however to really understand the dominion you have to go all the way back to
season 2's "The Jem'Hadar" then into
season 3 "The Search parts one and 2"
-The Abandoned
-Heart of Stone
-Improbable Cause
-The Die Is Cast
-The Adversary
then onto season 4
-Hippocratic Oath
-To the Death
-The Quickening
-Broken Link
These are all eps that give you a good inside into how the dominion thinks and who's who in it.

I thought the CGI was excellent but I didn't think it was done as well as it could have been. IMO, you knew the Federation would win, it was just a matter of when...rather than there being some desperate race to finish the war before the Dominion created Armageddon, it was just a leisurely build up until they had enough ships at which point they attacked Cardassia...I think it would have been better if the Dominion had built some kind of super weapon and the Federation had to send in every ship they had to destroy it and the Dominion had to send in every ship they had to protect it until it was completed.
Also, I thought it was MAJOR let down that we did not see the Breen attack on Earth...IMO that was a big event...Only in First Contact have we seen Earth attacked. The Breen attack should have taken an entire episode.
The battle in which the Defiant was lost should have been longer as well rather than a brief 5 minutes at the end of the episode...at least half of the episode would have been better IMO.
...etc.

I agree on all your points, the DS9 dominion war definetly had more potential than was used...I think some of the slower episodes could have been taken out (Dukat with the pah-wraiths for example)...

The Dukat/Pah-Wraith thing was a good Concept to think up, making him a good match for Sisko... They just took it too Far

The Dukat character was a good adversary for the "Starfleet" Sisko. I don't like how he was transformed into a nemesis for the "emissary" Sisko. A high-ranking Cardassian figure turned into a Pah-wraith/religious figure? Ummm ... bad.

I agree. That's why I thought that entire chapter was really slow and boring...and then Dukat sleeping with Winn? Whats with that?

^I know, they honestly didn't need to show the whole Love affair between "Anjohl" and Winn... it was really boring and just didn't go well with the action scenes later on in the episodes

I think it would have been better if Kira got to take down Dukat rather than Sisko.

That would be Ok with me, if they hadn't made Dukat the Emissary of the Pah-Wraiths, but seeing as they did I reckon that it was best that he fought Sisko (being the Prophet's Emissary and all )

Yeah in that sense I agree although while I thought Dukat allying with the Pah-Wraiths was a decent plotline, I didn't actually like it as he wasn't the same as he was before...
After the way he spoke to Kira during the time when DS9 was retaken, I was expecting her to take him out, get her own back lol. I liked how "kick-ass" Kira was with the Cardassians in the Cardassian Resistance and would have liked to see that turned on Dukat...
