NX-Class? I thought the "NX" was a form of "NCC", but for prototype designs.

^ It is. But TPTB decided it would be a good idea to call the Enterprise an NX Class...

Well, you really can't pay attention to that, I mean, U.S.S. stands for United States Ship, and yet, isn't Earth united?
I know Mr. Roddenberry came up with a different explanation for it, but still.....
Starship Enterprise - NX Class [Archer]
U.S.S. Enterprise - Constitution class [Kirk]
U.S.S. Enterprise - Constitution class (refit) [Kirk]
U.S.S. Enterprise - Excelsior class [Can't remember, somebody help me out]
U.S.S. Enterprise - Ambassador Class [Nor this]
U.S.S. Enterprise - Galaxy Class [Picard]
U.S.S. Enterprise - Soverign Class [Picard]
Of course each of these ships had previous Captains, but they were all the more famous captains.
So all of those ships belong to the United States eh...........get Checkov off my ship! Oh, but I kid. I love him. He's cool.

The Captain of the Enterprise C was Rachel Garrett (or something)
And neither Enterprise D nor Enterprise E had a previous captain, the captain has always been Jean-Luc Picard
Mrs. Captain Picard

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Picard said the Enterprise-D was brand-new in Encounter at Farpoint. The Enterprise-E was built straight off the Sovereign class right after the Ent-D was destroyed. There wasn't any time for a captain to go in before Picard.
By the way, was Bridge Commander "correct" (or canon), in its explaination of the career of the Sovereign? They said it was first created, and then abandoned due to technical faults. Then they built the Enterprise-E based on the Sovereign's base-designs, and improved upon it. Then they tweaked the Sovereign to match the Enterprise-E.
Or something like that. I need to read it again.

Thats the Bad thing about Startrek Enterprise, They are changing Startrek History!!!! Just think about the Borg episode on Startrek Enterprise!! Come off it, Starfleet were introduced to the borg by "Q" on the Starship Enterprise D 1701 under the command of CPT. Picard If Gene Roddenbery was still alive today, He'll be cancelling enterprise before you can even say "Candid Camera"
What ever happened to his ashes anyway??

First of all, I don't understand what that has to do with this topic, that is about what class the Enterprise is.
As I posted in another topic, Enterprise NX-01 doesn't get to know anything about the Borg. According to IntrepedII, the only thing that the Borg say to Enterprise is: "You will be assimilated". The Borg where in the Alfa Quadrant because of that Enterprise-E destroyed a Borg sphere when they travelled back in time in Star Trek First Contact. It seams very likely that those Borgs that were burried in ice for 100 years, wakes up and tries to contact their collective in the Delta Quadrant, and on their way, run into Enterprise.
Did you know Gene Roddenberry personally? Did he tell you before he died, that IF someone made a series called "Enterprise", it must be cancelled? I wouldn't bet on it. Instead I think that Gene Roddenberry would be glad that Star Trek keeps going, even after his death.
His ashes is for the moment orbiting the Earth.

1) There was a Captain of the Enterprise at the very beginning of its construction, then it was turned over after a year, to Captain Picard and his crew. The Enterprise D was brand new.
2) United Star Ship.....doesn't make real sense to me. That doesn't mean its not right!
3) Well, we know, Enterprise commanded by Captain Archer is NX class.
For a further question, what does NX mean?
I'm betting, New eXperimental.

Yeah it was the prototype. Since it's launch, Starfleet has begun construction on a second ship, the NX-02 which was briefly seen under construction in "The Expanse". I've heard rumours that the ship is tentatively called the "Shenan-Doa" or something...the same name as the Runabout in "Valiant" (DS9)...anyone know if that's true?

I'm a Channel 4 viewer as well...I managed to get Season 2 on VCD on eBay a while ago as well as "The Xindi" so that's how I know.
Maybe it's been answered before, but why does the "NX-02" retain the "NX" designation. Surely if the NX-01 was a prototype, the NX-02 should become the NCC-02 or NCC-01 or whatever (I don't really understand how the naming principles work so don't shout at me )
