|
I was reading somewhere that Enterprise's ratings were so low this last season that it may not make it much longer, but that's not all! With UPN removing Voyager from the air in favor for Enterprise and Enterprise's bad habit of constantly slapping people in the face with comentaries, Star Trek is losing viewers. What's your opinion?

No, but why is any Star Trek show on UPN? Shouldn't it be on like Fox or something?

With the low veiwers watching ENT it would for sure get taking of the air if it was on FOX....season 3 has to be better and get more veiwers or unfortunetly ENT isdone.

I've only ever seen two episodes of ENT. For the most part, we can't get it where I live. It'd be great if like most TV shows they let a nationally syndicated station pick up the older seasons and rebroadcast them.
It does rather seem that Trek is imploding atm, though.

Enterprise is ok, I think most of the begginning episodes were alright, but recently it has gotten better, has there been a writer change or something? And I wish it was on ABC or some other station, for some reason I hate UPN, to me they are just a weird wanna be ABC station that few people tune into.

Enterprise has viewers with very different opinions... In my opinion, Enterprise is the best Trek. You may think I'm really stupid, but that's what I think. I will be *very* sorry if they stop doing episodes just because the ratings aren't that high. Could low ratings really stop them from doing 7 seasons?

Think about it. More people watch Fox than UPN. If you have a bigger base to start with, the chances would be in favor of you to survive the first couple of months.
Its common sense folks.

No it isn't. Firefly got ratings only slightly lower than ENT's are now, and it was (arguably) a far better show than Enterprise. Just more fun to watch.
Cancelled after 15 episodes.
Look at Fox's history. Over the past decade or so, they've started around 15 SF/F series. The only one to survive more than two seasons was The X-Files. Most of them didn't even go one season.
Fox and Science Fiction don't mix.
Now, CBS *might* improve ENT's ratings. But more likely, the ratings will stay the same, and it'll be cancelled even sooner. The only way the ratings will improve is if ENT improves big-time in the writing department, and stops being derivative.
Its *possible* that might happen. But if it does, it had better be soon. The only reason UPN has kept it around this long, I suspect, is because ENT is the only thing keeping UPN from completely imploding as a network.

Firefly was a good show, I'm not doubting that, but look at the fanbase. Firefly had next to none, starting from scratch, while on the other hand, Star Trek has millions of viewers!
Star Trek: TNG, DS9, and Voyager went longer than 3 seasons, TNG finishing 3-7 on Fox (If I'm not mistaken, they did all seven series on Fox), DS9 did all seven (though moved to the Friday night slot, past 11pm) and Voyager was on 4 when they moved it to UPN. Needless to say, Star Trek fans will watch, no matter how much they dislike it.
Its like a drug.
I don't see it on CBS because CBS is crap.

TNG and DS9 were in first-run syndication. Its possible they aired on Fox, but they weren't produced by Fox.
If CBS is crap, then UPN is in trouble---they're under the same management.

*Had* millions of viewers. I'm not convinced it does anymore.
The numbers for "Broken Bow" showed how many people are interested in Trek; the numbers that have fallen since then show the percentage of those who think ENT isn't worth watching (or at least, not worth watching in real time). People who watch the weekend rerun or tape the show aren't counted.
If Trek still had as large a fanbase as it once did, Nemesis wouldn't have had such a poor box office.

Nemisis didn't make as good a box office as they would have liked because they released it the same weekend as Lord Of The Rings. I think Star Trek still has a large fanbase and ENT will run for 7 seasons on whatever channel it's on

Why shouldn't they? They ended TOS because of low ratings and viewers!

Yes, you have a point... Trek does have millions of viewers worldwide. But those viewers have come to expect something from Trek. Roddenberry set a tradition in TOS that's been carried through TNG, DS9, VOY, and almost all the movies. Enterprise refuses to follow that tradition. I know people who stoped watching ENT just because of the theme song, just because it has words and it's not instrumental.

DS9 wasn't traditional Star Trek, it was much darker in tone. But it was a damned good show. Not an embarrassment at all, despite a rather large number of ho-hum episodes in the first couple of seasons. Overall, it was very nearly as good as Babylon 5.
ENT, on the other hand.....I honestly would not care if it were cancelled. I'm still watching, but only because there's nothing else on at that hour. I don't care about the characters and the storylines hardly ever have much meat to them.
And I'm damned annoyed by the fact that every single scene is dominated by the color blue.

I think Enterprise is a very poor show, i was dissapointed with the first 2 seasons, i have yet to see the 3rd, so ill still give it a chance, but if series 3 is no good then, ill give up and say enterprise is doomed and its gonna take the startrek genre with it.

ENT had better start getting better! I just saw the season premere last night. I've always liked how Trek has been a show that families could watch for the most part, but Enterprise really smashed that with this show. There was a toppless scene with T'Pol! I won't let my little sisters watch ENT again.

Oh, for Gods sake! And what does that topless scene "show"? You don't let your sister go bathing at the beach at summer as well? It seams to me that you are trying VERY hard to find wrongs with Enterprise. So you sit and torture yourself through ever episode? It's a great show, you just won't see it because you're pissed of by something. You're pesimistic.

NEMESIS WAS RELEASED A WEEK BEFORE LORD OF THE RINGS AND HARRY POTTER!!! Every movie that has been released in that time frame has absolutely sucked compared to how they would've done being released months in advance. Had Nemesis been released a month or even two months prior to LOTR or HP, then most definately, it would've scored higher in the box office that it had. This is the biggest argument in the ST camps: If you're going to release a movie, don't release it next to likely blockbusters. Star Trek will not hold its own.
Quote: | TNG and DS9 were in first-run syndication. Its possible they aired on Fox, but they weren't produced by Fox. |
No, TNG and DS9 were not in first run syndications. TNG and DS9 ended their shows on Fox, as I recall recording hundreds of new episodes from the tube when they aired every friday night. When they say "Next time on Star Trek" and you have commercials that say "an all new episode of Star Trek", I don't think they'd be lying to you like that. Voyager premiered on Fox as well, but moved off to UPN shortly after.
CBS is crap: What's the last good show they had outside of Everyone Loves Raymond?

Too bad. I think alot of the fans lie in this area.

I'll agree with you on the DS9 point until you say its almost as good as Babylon 5. Don't get me wrong, I thought Babylon 5 was great, but sometimes... the stories just blew worse than me making up stories for DS9. But I liked the whole culmination of the Shadow Wars, then the Centauri domination of that one place.

Cry me a river. Like TNG was really a family show. What about when Picard was stripped to his skin, being interrogated by the Cardassians? Or how TNG seemed to glorify Riker's avid sexual taste for alien women, or at least, present it in undertones and subtle messages? What's worse? Visual exposure or mental/subconcious exposure?
Anyways, I'm done with my rant.
