Thu May 15, 2003 3:55 pm Episode: "Enterprise - The Expanse" |
|
This is next weeks one.
Synopsis:
A probe from an unknown alien source unleashes a devastating assault upon Earth. Enterprise is recalled, and along the way home Captain Archer acquires information that the perpetrators come from a region of space known as the Delphic Expanse a place where very bizarre things happen, and from which few ships that enter ever return. Starfleet must now decide whether to risk sending the NX-01 into the Delphic Expanse to prevent a possible second attack.

loved every minute of it lots of great developments including
finally photon torpedoes and about time
The 2nd NX ship is gettin made - good stuff
Hmm little earth fighter ships - sweet
I liked the event horizon like broadcast of the vulcans going nuts thats was awesome, a proper mission which means long story arcs which is also great, klingons, suliban, vulcans and xindi all in one episode - sweet, nice to see the good old birds of prey again, I wonder what roll the militery personal will play in this, ah well going to have to wait till next season to find
10/10
Can't wait for next season my faith in Enterprise has been restored

I fell asleep after Travis got them away from the aliens and shot them from behind. What happened after that?

It was pretty good, and I am going to stick around for next season. However, its far from perfect.
There's absolutely no reason Enterprise needs to have "Photonic" torpedoes at this point. The first encountered that tech two years before in "Sleeping Dogs", and its already rearched and developed? No.
It would have been far more interesting, dramatically and in terms of continuity, if the NX-01 had been outfitted with nuclear torpedoes instead.
That would fit with Spock referring to "Atomic" weapons being used in that era, *and* it would create some interesting battle scenarios-----nukes at long range only, and cannons up close.
Instead, we get the same old "Photonic" torpedoes that we've had for 30 years.......and in TOS episodes like "Balance of Terror", there's even some indication that the ship didn't have torps.

Yeah, it does seem too early for them to have photon torps. Maybe the Vulcans helped them refit the enterprise with them or something. I do like them a bit better never the less, those missiles were horrible.
All in all, the episode was pretty good.

I thought this episode was a pretty good. Ignoring the point of the phontic torpedoes brought up by Lindley, I think this episode makes a sharp turn in the temporal cold war plot line. Are we not on bad terms with the Suliban? New aliens/factions in the temporal cold war....
What's the deal with the Klingons? A sub-plot to introduce the aggression between the federation and Klingons pre-Enterprise-C?
I'm not sure why people don't like Enterprise. I think it's been a great first and second season compared to the other series.

The Expanse is on my top-5 Enterprise episode list. It's about... 3rd. My first is Broken Bow... I want that episode to come back on T.V. again.
My problems with the Expanse are photonic torpedoes and how they portray the Klignons. They kept on retreating!

I somewhat agree, the Klingons are willing to die for almost anything. But, I mean, they probably know more about the expanse than the Vulcans do, or just as much. So, even the bravest warrior would flinch. Of course not Archer, because he's the main character.

ENT's first season started out pretty good.
However, DS9 had a better second season than ENT. I think VOY did too.
Anyway, just look at shows like Firefly to see how a series can be excellent right out the door----there's no reason Trek shows should be allowed two whole seasons to "find the groove".

Sure there is. A new series in a new continuum has nothing to prove other than they're a contender. A new series in an old continuum (Star Wars, star trek, etc) has to follow a similiar type of setup in order to continue to hook and reel in the audience. Since we can be no predicter of the future, it only makes sense that the producers and writers of Star Trek would indeed use backdrops from previous episodes to construct new ones. In the case of Firefly, which had no ties to any known space age universe, could construct and weave as they like: they were not bound to any specifics like ENT was.

Yeah, well ENT doesn't seem to be trying very hard to stay "bound" to anything. If they were, the Ferengi and Borg wouldn't have appeared. Granted, they managed to just barely maintain continuity each time, but still.
Besides, the fact that they're trying to do the same old types of stories is part of the problem. Whatever happened to Enterprise being "New" and "different"?

Hee hee I just noticed another difference between Enterprise klingons and DS9 Klingons....I was watching "Sleeping Dogs" and T'Pol says that Klingon ships don't carry escape pods. Yet Worf manages to use one in the seventh season of DS9 on that Bird of Prey...I can't remember the episode name...I remember someone in that episode saying that there was an escape pod from the starboard side missing...
Perhaps they decided to add pods to their ships later...
PS> I've never seen Firefly- what's it about?

^Best darned show of the last decade.....cancelled, like so many good shows, after 15 episodes. Damn Fox to hell. Basically, a western with spaceships, or a scifi show with horses, take your pick. I don't like Westerns in general, but Firefly ruled nevertheless.
Its currently showing on Scifi UK, right after Enterprise I think (but I'm not in the UK). I highly recommend "obtaining" the pilot episode, "Serenity". I can't mention how you might do that due to board rules, however........
Despite it being cancelled, the 12 episodes which I've seen (3 were never aired in the US, the UK will be first to see them) were great all on their own, and I've lost track of howmany times I've rewatched some of them.
The only episode of the run which is subpar is "The Train Job"....which was also the first episode aired in the US. No wonder it was cancelled. Fox couldn't even air the first episode first.....
Oh, if you want a hint of what its about before taking the time to see it, there are three complete scripts for unaired episodes, and the teaser for another, online at www.fireflyfans.net .
EDIT: A complete DVD box set, with a full set of special features, is due out in late 2003. There is also talk of resurrecting the show as a movie.

Just saw the episode...wow....me like...me like
Unfortunately, it seems as though I have lost the ability to make full sentences so we'll see how I go....
I thought it was a very good episode esspecially with the special effects. The shots of the "weapon" ripping across the land was particularly good.
Roll on Season 3; I think Enterprise is beginning to get better, albeit slowly...

The differences is because ENT is eariler in the timeline. Things probably changed a lot as time progressed. Like how in ENT Vulcans look down on those who mindmeld. Well in VOY Tuvok uses the mindmeld a lot. Like in Flashback for example.
