PostMon Jun 23, 2003 7:43 pm    Instead of Enterprise they should have made Pike's Log!!!

I think I've made it clear about the fact that I beleave Enterprise should have been better thought out. I beleave that considering the fact that it was the launching of the first vessle and the begining of starfleet the show should have focused more on the federations birth and expantion into a legitamit interstellar power.

But since the writers punked out and made it just a low tech / earlier time line version of next generation it would have been better to follow the life of Captain Pike. After all when we see Pike all that's left is the man's head! what the hell happened?! Plus you still get the lower tech Enterprise a lot more babes in the mix a cool Dr the only problem I see is the young Mr. Spock.

That could probably be worked out. What do you think?

Enterprise is a show that I would think needs to stay kind of the same. Its a lot different than the rest but I think that they should show some of captain pike and some of the older star fleet admirals. Because, when you look into the text of any of the other shows it says nothing about archer because it was a prequel. If the captain was like pike then it would have fit with the other shows more deeply and the after effect would seem more real that the show is right now. What we have only seen 2 seasons of it maybe they will change it up a bit. Who knows what season 3 will be like?

I like Captain Archer also and I have no problems with the low tech aspects. The thing I have a problem with is it's stoyline content and the writers inability to try something new. Startrek, Next Generation, DS9, Voyager and now Enterprise. TV is unfortunatly run on ratings and if a show can't aquire new viewers it won't last for long. If first time viewers come away thinking it the same old thing in a new package then what does that say for the future of Startrek? I don't want my kids only exposer to startrek to come from reruns and old movies. I want them to bug the hell out of me for my old dvds so they can catch up on startrek history.

Deta rays? That's a good one. Try again. Frankly I think the ship followed an old sub space becon and when Pike took part in the away mission an alien egg hatched and attached to his head but when the alien burst from his chest the Federation had the technology to save his head.

Oh and by the way that's the reason why the federation looks down on Captains going on away missions.

Mr. 99 I get your point let's hope for season 3.

I'm thinking of changing my log in name to Mr. Pike's Head.

Wasn't Pike on one of the TOS episodes? He seemed to have his whole body with him...

In "The Cage" Captain Pike had a full Body, later we saw him in "the Menagerie" episode where he had been Crippled and could not communicate with anything other than 1 Beep for Yes and 2 Beeps for No

I doubt they could have Pulled off the Series, Jeffrey Archer the Actor who played him is Long Dead

Not only is he dead but if he was alive he'd be too old for the role. I'm not advocating we dig up the old Pike (No pun intended) what I'm saying is that it's been long enough to allow a new actor to play the roll.

Yes we all know that in the begining Pike had a full body but c'mon guys I'm talkin' about the end result here. (ok maybe I wasn't clear on that.)

The Cage was the original pilot. The Menagerie implies that something terrible went down later in Pike's cerear. Every Starfleet Captain doesn't have to have a safe ending. Even Sisco is in a position to make a comeback. Pike He just got dogged out somehow. Pikes show could take place after the cage and lead up to the accident.

Mr. Pike, captain pike was burnt by radiation by a reactor leak, he is not just a head on a box. The "box" you refer to is his wheel chair.

While all that sounds interesting, I personally would much prefer if they did the show about Captain April, and the first tour of the original Enterprise. One possible ending to the show could be when Pike takes over from April who brings a young spock with him............

I don't think you made it clear at all how "Enterprise should have been better thought out," unless it was in another post. You realize the theme of Enterprise to be the begining of the federation, however you viewing the series as if it were over. There's no reason think that some of the "birth and expansion" themes will not develop in further detail later.

Why, again, do you think "the writers punked out?" It is obvious that they would have to use technology that pre-dates the previous series. That's the whole point of the show.

Be it as it may, I don't see how anything you said regarding Enterprise has anything to do with why we should have a show that "follow(s) the life of Captain Pike." What do we know of Captain Pike? How many episodes was he mentioned in? From a fan point of view, I would rather know about the early events of the star trek/federation world, then follow the life from some character mentioned in TOS.

How could this subject be misconstrued? OK let's make things clear. TOS was a mission of exploration. TNG was a mission of exploration. DS9 was the base station series. VOY was the startrek lost in space scenario. So now we go back to the mission of exploration? Who cares if it's the first ship if all their going to do is the same thing TOS and TNG did? That's what I mean when I say the writers have punked out. This series doesn't have time to develop the Birth & expansion themes because most of their other story lines have been lame. Its viewer ship is down and now their talking about abandoning the show after the next season ends. Why because old writers have the tendency of writing the same thing more then once. They need new blood and much better writing. Archer makes mistakes even we wouldn't make. Not to mention how everyone else can kick enterprises butt. As far as pikes concerned he'd kick Archers ass and it's the fact that we don't know much about him that would probably be so interesting. Besides We all know the fist Captain was not Archer.
