PostThu Feb 19, 2004 7:47 pm    Kirk in command of the TNG crew

Okay, it's time to imagine a few things here.

(SPOILERS AHEAD REGARDING STAR TREK:GENERATIONS. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN, YOU MAY NOT WANT TO READ)

As you all know, Kirk was sucked into the nexus at the beginning of Star Trek:Generations. He came out with Picard to stop Soran and died (bless you, Kirk, you were the best).

Now, let's imagine that Kirk had not died. What if Picard had died instead whilst trying to stop Soran?

Let your imagination take a leap. Picard dies, Soran dies. Kirk lives. Kirk gets back to Earth and contacts Starfleet and tells them everything about his life in the Nexus and how Picard had died.

Imagine, Starfleet asking Kirk if he would return to them. Suspend your disbelief and imagine Kirk accepting and being put in charge of the Enterprise NCC 1701-D.

Right, how do you think Kirk would have fared?

1) How do you think Kirk would have felt about certain crewmembers? Could he have gotten on with Worf or would he forever be thinking about his battles with the Klingon's during his time. What about Data? How would Kirk react to him? What about Kirk and Riker-two action men together. And what about Kirk and Wesley? Now, sorry but I hated Wesley. Would Kirk have let Wesley on the bridge? What about Kirk and Deanna Troi-would they have gotten it on? It'll be interesting to read your thoughts.

2) How would Kirk have fared against TNG-era threats. How would Kirk have dealt with Q? What would Kirk's strategy be against The Borg? How would Kirk deal with the Ferengi nuisances?

This should be fun, I hope. I'll type my thoughts later (this post is long enough) but imagine Kirk in the TNG-era. What would life have been like for him?

Looking forward to your views.

Kirk would have definitely slapped that silly Ensign Ro b**** around a little. Would have been great to see.

Also, imagine the interplay with Worf. Kirk "never trusted Klingons and never will." He "never forgave them for the death of his son."
I imagine Worf would have been sent on some seriously dangerous away missions if Kirk was in charge.
Oh yeah- Worf would have been buried in that red shirt from season 1.

Riker would have to sedate him every show to keep him from going on away missions. He would also have gotten all the 'tail' instead of Riker.

Imzadi76, I like your ideas, particularly your idea for Worf as a redshirt.

Here's my brief take...

Kirk would get it on with Deanna Troi and Deanna would love it!

Kirk and Riker would have many great moments together and get into quite a few bar brawls together.

Kirk would NEVER trust Worf unfortunately. Even if Worf stepped in front of Kirk and protected him from danger.

Not too sure about Kirk and Data. I think Kirk would feel awkward around an android that wanted to be human.

Kirk would keep that annoying Wesley Crusher off the bridge. And if Crusher annoyed Kirk too much, Kirk would punch him right on the nose. And that would be fun for an anti-Wesley person like me to see.

What about TNG era enemies?

Kirk would lose patience with Q's immaturity rather quickly. It would probably result in the death of Kirk but Kirk would hit Q with tremendous force and Q would have no alternative but to kill him.

(What am I saying? Scrap that! Kirk would have kicked Q's butt back to the Continuum)

Not too sure how Kirk would handle The Borg. But I'd bet that he'd send them packing faster than any of the TNG era Captains.

As for the Ferengi, Kirk would have them for breakfast!

Long live Kirk!

There's a very good possibility that Kirk would have had Data doing things that would be considered 'humiliating' to organic crewmen. Kirk would give him chores like:
-drink coaster
-spam filter
-bathroom cleanser
-laundry boy
-window washer
-answering service

the list goes on...
