PostTue Aug 05, 2003 6:07 am    stop slagging off enterprise

I am getting sick and tired of people slagging of enterprise. It is only in its 3rd season and in my opinion the episodes are great. All of the seasons were critisized at the start and all of them by season 7 were the best shows i have ever seen. If enterprise was canceled what would those people say. Enterprise is still star trek and if star trek got canceeld then their would be millions of fans out their very dissapointed and agry and the few fans who chose to disown star trek!

I couldn't agree with you more, uss crag. In my opinion Enterprise's two first seasons has been great and I hope that there will be five more to come.

None of the other shows were as dissapointing in their first two seasons as ENT has been. DS9 found its feet after one season, though it did stumble a bit in season 2 before really picking up. TNG had some stinkers in season 1, and S2 wasn't that great either....but there was a writers' strike, so they have an excuse. The first two seasons of TOS were the best of that show. The first two seasons of VOY were as good as anything later----some say better.

And here's Enterprise. I liked it at first, but after the third or fourth episode which was a clear-cut redo of an old Trek episode, and the fourth or fifth episode when characters made boneheaded decisions......I just lost interest. I still watch first run eps, but that's it. No reruns. Not going to get the DVDs if they ever come out.

Why should Trek shows get three seasons to "find their legs"? Why? Firefly was cancelled after 15 episodes, and was better in those hours than ENT has been in two seasons. Babylon 5 had to struggle every single year for renewal, and only made its planned five-year arc by the skin of its teeth. ENT has the Trek name, and thus is virtually garanteed renewal, no matter how little effort the folks in charge put into it.

I wouldn't mind so much if ENT weren't a prequel. They made it a prequel in order to make it different.......and yet, its more "same 'ol" than any of the previous shows. In this supposedly primitive century, we've already seen holodecks and holograms, replicators and transporters. "Polarized Hull Plating" which is, dramatically, no different than sheilds. How exactly is ENT "New and different"?

Its a prequel! Make it one! Don't jump at every chance to violate continuity even more than it has been! "Lets give the Romulans cloaks, just cause its 'kewl', even though cloaking was unknown in Kirk's time!"

ARG, it makes me want to rip my hair out at times. Luckily, I have a great deal of self-restraint.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion so please if you dont mind could you argue this by PMing or not at all because these are public forums and people may take offence at what you're saying.
Next time if an arguement breaks out stop and think about the people you may be hurting.

I don't care. Call me closed minded, but it's my opinion. It is also about 95% of all other trekkies opinions!

If folks are immature enough to be "hurt" be reading opinions which don't coincide with theirs, one has to wonder if they're mature enough to be online in the first place.

True. But posting a negative opinion of ENT is not being mean to other posters on the forum.

I believe that, if Viacom and the Paramount execs would listen to the fans more, maybe they wouldn't have this problem.

I don't mind a break from the continuum and timeline because hey, its not like any other show doesn't do it. Look at Star Wars. *beep*, there's a lot of instances in that!

Overall, I think the show is great. Yeah, there are parts and episodes that should've been redone or just completely omitted but its a show and their doing their damnedest job at doing it right.

Give them credit. At least they can act.

I think that Prequels are generally not as popular as the other series...take Trek for example, in TOS you start with a basic premise in a basic universe....this is then expanded in TNG...DS9 dealt with continuing themes in this Galaxy whereas Voyager was somewhere in between. With a prequel, you have to start again from scratch - fleshing out a known universe which has already been "fleshed out" but you have alot of expectations for it simply because of the name. Had Enterprise been anything other than Star Trek, I think it would've been cancelled before now...

The only way to stop the "bashing" of this show is for B&B to cancel, and decanonise the show.

To me it's not star trek, and never will be.

Every one on this site is a startrek fan so stop your whimpering! Any fan can rally behind this show and beet the millions of fans drum but it takes a real startrek fan to look at the Startrek legacy and admit it when it fails. Admit it!! It won't kill you! ENT bites the big one! Maybe next season huh? You say that enough and you'll be switching channels looking for it soon.
