Our Solar System

Our system is known as the SOL system. So, usually, systems are named after their suns. So, why aren't we known as the Solar System...not the terran system?

its the same as man or human
solar system means the system belonging to the sol

For the idea of who created the name Sol for our son...I have no idea, but thanks for the insights.

It's Sol system, becuase it encompasses the whole system. If it were the Terran system, that would be vain, no? Besides, it'd get confusing. They call humans Terrans, Earth is Terra, you do much more than that, and you'd go nuts.

Sol stands for sun, based on mytholigal gods and powers...But I am still confused about the whole Terrian thing. Can u help me?

Isnt it called solar system just in English im sure its called different things in other languages. Like the Earth is just called Earth in English. So really it isnt Earth thats just our biased way of naming it. Oh god i need coffee now my brains overloaded

The sun of our solar system is known as Sol. If memory serves (since I haven't learned it in Latin I yet), sol is Latin for 'sun'. So, we live in the Sol System.

In Latin, terra means 'land' or 'earth'. Those who live on Earth, then, are referred to as Terrans. Since Earth is in the system, the entire system is referred to as the Terran System.

Yeah, other people said the same thing, but I wanted to clarify. ^_^
