Chapter 1: Mission "Nine"

Admiral Kathryn Janeway sat staring out the window of her office at Starfleet headquarters. She glanced at the padd next to her unsure of what to think, "Our first mission in over a year," she said quietly to herself. It had been a year since we returned, a year since we nearly destroyed the Borg. She shifted uneasily, Most of her crew would be returning for the mission, Lieutenant Harry Kim, Lieutenant Paris, Commander Chakotay, Commander Tuvok, Lieutenant Torres, The Doctor, and her newly commissioned Science Officer Seven of Nine. Janeway smiled, after they arrived home the Maquis members of her crew were pardoned of all crimes against the Federation, and those who chose to say were granted positions in Starfleet. She glanced down once again at the Padd there were two additions to her main crew, Astrometrics: Donada Sidursiddeg, a Trombiant; and Nurse Callie O�Connell.

Janeway was weary of any new additions to her crew, after all the other members were more family like, and Voyager was their home, "Voyager," she whispered. Voyager had undergone many changes since they returned from their sojourn in the Delta Quadrant, all technology was inspected and studied for over a year at the Daystrom Institute, and then she was given a complete overhaul, all systems were upgraded, with the newest Starfleet equipment, after the war with the Dominion major technological breakthroughs had been made, and most of them had occurred at the fist place they were visit on their newest mission, Deep Space Nine. Janeway felt uneasy, her last mission began at Deep Space Nine, the one that led her to the Badlands, and then the Delta Quadrant.

The mission that Voyager was to undertake was simple, The Bajoran Government had asked the Federation to safeguard an orb, the Orb of Time, she believed. The Romulan Government had nearly stolen it on several occasions, and as the Enterprise-E later discovered, it was not the Romulans, but the Remans. Captain Picard was uncertain why, he believed that it had something to do with destroying the Federation before it began, possibly during the Terran-Romulan Conflict two hundred years before.

Janeway stood as the comm on her desk began to beep; she pressed the LCARS screen accepting the message. It was Admiral T�Pera, "Admiral It is Great to see you," Janeway said to the Vulcan on the screen, "Thank you Admiral, I wanted to inform you that Voyager is in orbit of Earth, awaiting your return, I am aware that you were anxious to know when it arrived," Janeway was stunned; Finally She would be able to return to her ship, their Ship. "Yes, I have been anxious," Janeway said her voice slowing, "I will beam abard momentarily Janeway out," Janeway stood, excitement filling her, after a year she will return to command her ship and her crew, she walked over to the little Transporter station in the corner of the room, and keyed in the coordinates, she then stood on the Transporter padd, "Energize," in a matter of seconds she was gone.

A few seconds later, she materialized in Voyagers Transporter room. The smell was familiar yet the room was slightly different, the technology had been upgraded and the carpeting has been replaced, yet it was all too familiar. Chakotay walked in to greet her, �Hello Kathryn,� Chakotay said as he walked up to the Transporter, �Hello Captain,� Janeway said with a smile, �Actually Temporary rank reduction orders of one Admiral Kathryn Kiernan Janeway,� He said his cheeks Redding, �Captain Janeway, temporary rank reduction,� she said a smile widening on her face as well. she stepped off the Transporter padd and accompanied Chakotay out of the Transporter room.

�Thomas Eugene Paris, You P�Toc your going to make us late! Grab Miral, and get your butt on the Transporter pad!� Tom Paris grabbed his daughter and immediately obeyed his wife. They dematerialized almost immediately. They dematerialized in a beautiful room, Admiral Owen Paris and his wife Catherine, �Tom, B'Elanna it is wonderful to see the both of you,� Admiral Paris said, �And always a pleasure to see our beautiful Miral,� Catherine said walking up to their granddaughter �Noonie And Pa Pa,� Miral said a smile on her young face, Admiral Paris� face filled with pride. �Well are you two going to wait for an engraved invitation,� Catherine said, �Lunch is ready.� �I knew something smelled great,� Tom said to his mother, �You never say that when I cook,� B�Elanna said to him a small grin, he leaned over and kissed her on her cheek as they walked into the dining room.

�So the both of you have been assigned a brief mission on Voyager?� Catherine Paris said, �Well,� Tom Thought, �Mom it�s more of a reunion more than anything, I mean our mission is more or less retrieving an Ancient Artifact, nothing serious like reconnaissance missions to Cardassi five,� B�Elanna smiled as she took of drink of her Tarkian Ale, �He�s right you know, it�s more like an official excuse to have a crew reunion; not even considering Janeway requested it.� Admiral Paris moved his food around on his plate, �The Orb of Time is not without it�s dangers,� he said �The crew of the Defiant were taken back two hundred years, when a rouge Klingon named Arne Darvin attempted to kill, James T. Kirk.� Tom glanced at B�Elanna at the revelation of this new information, B�Elanna seemed uninterested.

Lunch passed quickly, soon it was time for Tom and B�Elanna to report to Voyager for the mission. �Miral you be a good girl,� Tom said as he kissed his daughter. �You mind Noonie and Pa Pa,� B�Elanna sad as she walked to the corner of the room. They soon dematerialized, Miral began to cry at the sudden disappearance of her parents.

Harry Kim and Seven of Nine walked through the ruins of what had been at one time one of the greatest cities in the World, New York. "It still amazes me what old ballistic missiles could do to a city." Seven of Nine looked at him her face stern and impassive as usual, "At least they were not hit with one of the large nuclear warheads common in World War Three," Harry could not argue with that revelation, so many cities on Earth had been destroyed with Nuclear weapons, and were still radiated, archeological teams were unable to research in those places with the same degree that they could in cities like New York and Washington D.C. which were destroyed very early in the war, before Nuclear Weapons were used.

Seven of nine bent to the ground and picked an object up, "Harry, What do you make of this?" She stood handing him a small object that appeared to be a coin, he read it aloud, "Quarter Dollar, Year 2032; Seven, it appears that you have found a collectors item, pre-war coins are worth several bars of latnium." Seven eyed the coin, "It will make a great gift for Admiral Janeway." Seven said off handily, "Speaking of we�d better get back and change, we do have a mission remember?" "Of course," Seven said as she leaned over and kissed Harry on the cheek. Harry reached down to his belt and removed the site-to-site transporter, he pressed a button and they arrived in San Francisco.

"Seven do you think we have time to grab a bite to eat before we transport to Voyager?" "I believe so, I know a great Bolian Restaurant on 18th Street," Seven said walking up behind Harry and hugging him lightly. Seven and Chakotay ended their relationship not long after arriving in the Alpha Quadrant, apparently he had feelings for another woman, although he was unwilling to say who. After Seven enrolled in Starfleet Academy, they had decided that she had already assimilated all the relevant Data required for the courses, so they sent her on her first mission a two week mission aboard the U.S.S. McCoy, to explore an uncharted Nebula in the Gamma Quadrant, Harry Kim also happened to be assigned as Operations Chief. During a mission that involved the Science Officer and Operations Chief, they pulled a "Tom and B�Elanna" as The Doctor so eloquently put it.

After Changing into their respective uniforms Seven and Harry had Lunch at La Toher Bu Edes, a wonderful Bolian restaurant, afterward they both beamed aboard Voyager eager to see the family they both loved so dearly.
