Well, on that note.. I think if the U.S. was so concerned about saving space, they wouldn't have the 3 strikes rule, or have it implied on stupid things. For example, Why should A guy be locked up for a long time for lets say... a dui? And then complain about not having room for a psycho murdrer.. or rapist.. Something that actually matters. Not that DUI's are good, But it was just an example.

It's an interesting and controversial question. The alternatives are fines, parole, and death as far as I see it. Or not punishing them at all.

Stupid, no? If you're going to kill someone, you should really get around to it sooner. Give 'em a year for appeals, and if they can't get a new trial by then kill them.

I agree with you on that, Zeke. But I still don't feel Scott should get death on circumstantial evidence. And I think he is guilty... But I still don't think it is right.

Well, that's more of a personal morality issue. I can't argue that.

To have been eligible for the death penalty, the case would have to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Any reasonable doubt. And, as I'm sure you know, all evidence, etc... is not released to the public, as that would be counter productive.

One wonders if the Freedom of Information Act means anything at all anymore...

Would you want a capital case against you tainted by evidence erroneously made public too soon?
It's been proven that people have "remembered" things about a crime scene, when in actuality they only heard about it via the media.

I don't think it matters. Witness testimony has already proven so incredibly unreliable in even the most seemingly-perfect of cases that I'm not about to say that public knowledge will taint them so very much more than they are just by being human.

Ok,
I, as you can see, disagree, though.

That, as you might imagine, doesn't surprise me. It's good to discuss anyway.

Yes, I didn't imagine there would be any surprise on your end,
Though, honestly, I have no real problem with Peterson being on death row. Read some detailed stuff about how they found the bodies... Quite horrific.

Well, at least we agree on the result, if not the reasoning.
