I didn't say others don't. I'm just saying that I don't see it as defying the religious aspect of the holiday.

I wouldn't say anybody is "defying" it. I acknowledge it's religious significance to some people.

So, it's okay to do things such as give gifts, which don't have anything to do with the holiday, but it's not just enjoy it, if you don't believe? Sheesh.

...for the record, I'm not against people celebrating it that don't believe. I simply prefer to celebrate it differently than the "mainstream" would. People can do whatever the heck they please.

Oh, alright, that's good. I personally don't see why people who aren't believers should just sit around and do nothing whereas people who are can do everything and anything (and not get yelled at, ). Who knows.... maybe celebrating it would inspire them to become religious. Would anybody really want to know that they may be trying to deprive someone of a spiritual conversion?

I don't see how it's "too" commercial of a holiday. I'd say it's a good thing, as more people can celebrate it. And it's not necessarily the store's fault, either. After all, if the people didn't buy anything, they wouldn't be advertising.

I can pretty much agree with you on that. Even as much as I despise the commercial aspect, I guess people like it...

What's the problem with believing in something that has been a root of your childhood? Go check out this book called Nicholas: The True Story of Santa Claus.

Give me a break. For most people Christmas is just another holiday, a holiday with decoration and a Christmas tree. Its about Love and Understanding, exchanging gifts. Give presents too people who can't afford it, do good deeds. You can't take that away just because people don't believe.

Talking from a Christian point of view: Would Jesus get mad if a lot of people celebrated his birthday (for 2 days) While they don't think it as his birthday but just a Happy time with a lot of Love and Happiness for everybody? I think he would just be happy that they rememberd his birthday and rememberd too be happy at that time.

If you don't even celebrate Jesus, even as a philosopher, then DON'T CELEBRATE IT! I don't give a damn if it's just a 'regular holiday' to others. I don't give a damn. The secularists are trying to get Jesus out of the holiday, and that's NOT RIGHT. If you don't believe in him EVEN AS A PHILOSOPHER, then DON'T CELEBRATE IT! Forgive me, but it's bull crap if you do!
Oh, and come on, we ALL KNOW Santa's real! (Warning...)

I'm afraid they've already pretty successfully taken Jesus out of the holiday, except for the Christians who still celebrate it that way. So it seems to me.

And, Jeff, even a lot of people who don't believe in Jesus's divinity do admit that he lived. Whether or not the bible teachings of him are true is what is generally the debate.

1. No, the Secularists have NOT won, at least not in this country.
2. He DID exist, and it has been PROVEN. Whether you believe that he is DIVINE or not is up to you.

I didn't say secularists have won entirely. But I do think they've done a pretty grand job with it so far, and I don't see it getting any better. And, um...I believe the second point you made was what I was attempting to say.

They have NOT succeeded in this fight in this country, but yes, they have done pretty good so far.
And I was not disagreeing with you in that second statement.

My two cents...

You know, I'd love to have a Happy Xmas, it would be wonderful to have a Wonderful Christmastime. Personally, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday but still, Merry Christmas Everybody.

I Believe In Father Christmas even if A Spaceman Came Travelling. After all, it's The Power Of Love that brings us all together at Christmas. It makes us all Angels. Even when people say, "Baby, It's Cold Outside", they still love each other.

That's why I hope you all Step Into Christmas and take a Sleigh Ride here or there. After all, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town so you may as well get into the spirit of it all and sing The Millennium Prayer.

Hope everyone does have a good one, though. Maybe it'll be a White Christmas in some areas of the globe. I say, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow. Snow just adds to the Christmas spirit along with Mistletoe and Wine. The whole festive season gives you a feeling of Walking In The Air in a Winter Wonderland. It just makes you feel good, like Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.

Well, tomorrow it may snow here in England. If so, I'll build a Frosty The Snowman in my back garden. Who knows, I may even get a glimpse of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. I do feel Lonely This Christmas but I'm still going to Deck The Halls, to get into the spirit of things.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I'm off to bed soon to sleep and have a Silent Night, Holy Night.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Maybe there is a diffrence between Xmas and Christmas.

People who celebrate Christmas clebrate the birth of CHRIST and belive he is 'Divine'

People who celebrate Xmas celebrate a holiday that last for 2 days and involves Santa Claus(appereantly) and a tree.

How about that theory?

How about just letting people believe whatever they want to believe and mind your own *beep* business (RM)

Hooray for the song post, Stephen.

Thanks, Triam. Looking at it now, it seems a little stupid but I wanted to compose a post made up of mainly Christmas song titles. Glad you appreciated it.

I celebrate Christmas, but I celebrate the tree, Santa, etc. It's the same thing. Either way.

And that was a GREAT post, Starfleet Dentist.

I lost my political correctness when I opposed a Liberal, and when I said Merry Christmas and that teachers should call the 2-week break like it is, Christmas Break (NOT "Winter Break").

Tsk tsk tsk. It's not Christmas everyday of the break, if so, it would be Christmas break, However... everyday of it is in the winter, so therefore it's winter break.

For the sake of argument, we'll say you're right. By your line of thought, it would be Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa Break,

Ah, check out the legislation. By law it is CHRISTMAS BREAK. Signed into law by US Grant in the late 1800s.
