^Take a deep cleansing breath. Now read the article title. Also, check the time that was posted. It was breaking news at the time, and all information had was posted. If you'd read the whole topic, or even skimmed it, you'd see Canada was mentioned, and even on the map posted.

I blame the system. The electric grid needs to be updated or at least
something that will stop the cascade from going into multiple states.

Like Maine for example, my Aunt said that after '77 they installed something that allowed them to disconnect from the system.

I'm just glad that I wasn't up North during this.
Florida is more likely to have a power outage like that if something
happened within the state. Except for the panhandle we don't import
much electricity from other states. But inside the state we're all connected.

This is all worrisome,
To think this all happened by accident, what if someone decided to
something like this on pupose.

Scary

You don't think that mass chaos and paranoia are effective weapons?

geez my dad remembers the day when electricty was only second to candle light, nowadays you'd think that people absolutely need the lights of those big annoying overly bright sky scrapers

It was not only the lights. The traffic lights, water for some areas. And subways, elevators that people were in, therefore trapping them in tight spaces with no cooling system, in the dark!

And also people who commute to work, lost transportation home in the heat of the day. It was not the end of the world, but it was very shocking that so much happened with only one misshap. It is a big deal, because we base our lives around electricity, it would be a major change to not have it.

If you live in High Spen you get used to power cuts quite quickly. Every house has a supply of candles, including ours. So far, we've had two power cuts since we moved into my new house, although they were only for a few minutes each. More common is power surges.

Everyone is equipped to deal with power outages. During the ice storm we lost power for nearly a week. The issue is a power outage on such a massive scale.
Every modern country relies on computers alot more than they should, IMO.
