There's no sound scecne space is a vacume. And in some parts of space the vacume is so strong that light can't get in. These are called Black Holes. Actually if you use a radio telescope you can hear the sound from the Big Bang.

There's no sound scecne space is a vacume. - Correct
And in some parts of space the vacume is so strong that light can't get in. These are called Black Holes. - Incorrect - Light can get in black holes; it can never come back out though. Black holes are not an effect of a vacume but of gravity- they have nothing to do with the vacume
Actually if you use a radio telescope you can hear the sound from the Big Bang - Correct- but, this telescope also detect cosmic radation given off from stars, pulsars, quarsers, etc.

How very interesting. I was not fully aware of those experiments. However, we all know that photon torpedoes can be classified as energy rather than waves. In addition, one would have to create a dedicated tunnel for the torpedo which clearly does not happen.

I think he means that sound is always present in space (and seems to travel at light speed ) in scifi movies

I guess I have to agree then. Although it is really annoying whenever you hear a big whoosh when Enterprise goes by LOL

"A photon torpedo just wouldn't be quite right, would it?" |
Yeah, I had a few thoughts about that. The torpedo, being a cluster of photons, whould always travel at light speed. According to special relativity, it will ALWAYS travel at the speed of light, realtive to anything. Therefore, you cannot outrun/outmauever (which happens on all the time on the show) it at just about any speed. Warp is another factor. Since warp is supposed to be faster than light, photon torpedoes will be useless while in subspace. But we still see them being launched during warp flights! If warp theory is right, they would never exit the tubes. |
here is something the torpedoes have to go faster than the speed of light, or the ship would get hit by its own torpedoe if it didn't.. |
Exactly! But photons cannot go faster than the speed of light! |
I agree. The torpedo would never even leave the tube if the vessle is traveling a above warp 1. |
torpedoes generate their own warp field, thats why you will never see phasers used at warp, because phasers cannot generate a warp field |
Photon Torpedeos only go warp 1 (smae as phasers which are light and have to travel at light speed. |
(wow quite a stack of quotes)
Absoultely correct! |
that is a big stack of quotes. btw, i think torpedoes go faster than warp 1 |
Quite unlikely physics-wise but still a possibility |
maybe it would be in a star trek technical manual |
that stack of quotes is getting bigger.....

you hear noises because it makes everything a bit more interesting. Its sort of like putting music into a movie. What do you think the movie would be like without music?

hopefully this is on topic. I have a theory to if there is sound in space. Yes the shows/movies add sound for sure to make it more interesting. This goes back to a old saying I once heard, If a tree falls in a forest and nothing is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Like I said before... It gives it a better effect. If there was no sound it would seem dry and boreing.
